PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Thor Tikkanen (ranked 4400 p4p, 4424 weight class) and Franco Fajardo (ranked 437 p4p, 441 weight class). Tikkanen comes to the cage accompanied by IRON MAN/ Black Sabbath. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Thor Tikkanen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Franco Fajardo! The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Santiago Holmes and Peter Branson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tikkanen lands with a hook. Fajardo tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Fajardo scores with a takedown into Tikkanen's guard. Fajardo wants to pass the guard but Tikkanen is keeping the position. Fajardo wants to control from the top but Tikkanen keeps moving. Fajardo throwing strikes but missing. Fajardo trying to control but Tikkanen is working from the bottom. Fajardo preventing the sweep. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Fajardo loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Tikkanen is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Tikkanen knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Fajardo on the ground. Fajardo lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fajardo drops back, looking for a kneebar! Tikkanen looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Tikkanen looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Tikkanen! Fajardo sneaks back into half guard. Fajardo is looking for a sweep. Tikkanen is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Fajardo actively working from the bottom here. Fajardo gets back to full guard.
Tikkanen postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Fajardo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Tikkanen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Tikkanen preventing the sweep. Fajardo has control of Tikkanen's left arm, preventing Tikkanen from doing any damage. Fajardo has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Tikkanen should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Fajardo has tightened it up now! Tikkanen should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
