This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 12 wins and 10 losses; Boris Balkan! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 33 wins and 27 losses; Leandro Lo! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.
Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Balkan drives through and clinches with Lo against the ropes.
Balkan gets control of Lo's arms and successfully pulls guard. Balkan will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Balkan is trying to hold Lo in close to prevent damage but Lo has managed to pass into half guard.

Lo looking to pass the guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Balkan seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Balkan is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. It looks like Lo might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. A lull in the action here.

Lo uses his free foot to push down on Balkan's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Balkan. Score +3 for passing guard: Balkan (0) vs (9) Lo Lo controlling from the full mount.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Balkan wants to control but Lo is having none of it. Lo manages to capitalize on a mistake by Balkan to take his back! Balkan staying busy and making it hard for Lo to control. Lo is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Balkan defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined. Balkan trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

We've been hearing good reports from Balkan's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Balkan looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Lo really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Balkan. Balkan turns into Lo and is now in his guard.
Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Balkan (2) vs (12) Lo The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Balkan tries to free his leg and advance position but Lo is retaining full guard. Balkan won't allow Lo to sweep him here.
And that's the end of the fight! Lo wins on points by 12 to 2. |
