PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Junior Seto (ranked 2392 p4p, 2725 weight class) and Herio Lupsaka (ranked 309 p4p, 347 weight class). Seto comes into the arena with The Doors - Roadhouse Blues blaring out of the sound system. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Junior Seto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Herio Lupsaka!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Anthony Taglia and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Seto gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Lupsaka to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Seto is pulling down on Lupsaka's head. It's preventing any offense from Lupsaka, at least for the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lupsaka throwing strikes but missing.
Seto is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Seto tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Lupsaka really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Seto. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Lupsaka content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Seto has momentary wrist control but Lupsaka slips an elbow through the middle.
Seto pulls Lupsaka in close to prevent any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lupsaka accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Seto had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Lupsaka defends it easily.

Seto is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Lupsaka defends well.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Seto avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Seto pulls Lupsaka in close to prevent any damage.
Seto tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Lupsaka is fighting to break Seto's control of his arms but Seto is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Lupsaka chips away with some ground and pound.
Seto looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Seto looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Seto looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Seto is trying to keep Lupsaka in close.
Seto is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Seto wants to free his trapped foot but Lupsaka is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Seto prevents Lupsaka from improving his position.
Lupsaka is looking to control Seto's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Lupsaka avoid being mounted?
Lupsaka tries to roll over but Seto keeps him under control.

Seto is working for a submission of some sort.
Seto wants to take a breather but Lupsaka is having none of it.
Seto not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Seto is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Lupsaka misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Lupsaka is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Lupsaka is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Seto wants to take a breather but Lupsaka is having none of it.
Seto slows the pace down in half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Lupsaka keeping hold of Seto's head, controlling as best he can.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Herio Lupsaka dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.


Lupsaka shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Lupsaka showed some decent athleticism there.
Seto wants to get back to full guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Lupsaka connects with a nice short shot to Seto's temple.
The fighters are battling for position here. Seto manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Lupsaka landing some decent shots from guard.
Lupsaka lands a couple of elbows.
Lupsaka is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Seto is on top in guard.

Seto wants to pass the guard but Lupsaka is keeping the position.

Lupsaka controls Seto momentarily but Seto frees himself.
Herio Lupsaka has got the better of the ground game so far.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Seto passes Lupsaka's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Seto has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Lupsaka tries to hold on but Seto postures up.
Seto moves to take his opponent's back.
Lupsaka is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Seto off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

Seto has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Lupsaka! Can he survive? No! He's out! Seto gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Junior Seto!
A relieved looking Junior Seto thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
