PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Arik Boge (ranked 5090 p4p, 4380 weight class) and Brian Dinkel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Arik Boge!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Brian Dinkel!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Taro Takaoka and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A looping hook to the body misses from Boge. Dinkel does a little dance to reset his feet.

Dinkel fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Boge to the ground. Dinkel is now in Boge's guard.
Dinkel throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Dinkel is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Dinkel throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Boge works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dinkel passes Boge's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Dinkel stands up from half guard.

Boge throws an off balance right hand
and Dinkel counters with a three punch combo that has Boge backing up. Boge nods at Dinkel to acknowledge the strikes.
Boge swings for the body but Dinkel moves out of range.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Boge enables Dinkel to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Boge manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Dinkel is pushing down on Boge's leg trying to pass to half guard. Boge is fighting to maintain full guard but Dinkel has managed to sneak the leg through.

Dinkel is trying to work for a kimura but Boge is defending well.
Dinkel content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Dinkel is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Boge has managed to free his arm - good work.

Boge is looking to escape.
Boge knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Dinkel on the ground.
Dinkel with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Dinkel clinches.
Boge is trying to break the clinch but Dinkel has him pressed against the cage.

Dinkel pulls guard effortlessly.

Dinkel is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Boge defends well.
Dinkel striking off his back but it's not causing Boge any problems.

Dinkel bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Boge's guard.

Boge wants to stand up but Dinkel is controlling him.

Dinkel passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Dinkel controls the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boge parries the strikes from Dinkel easily there. Dinkel is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Boge to escape.

Dinkel stands up.

Boge gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Dinkel to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Dinkel is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Brian Dinkel dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Dinkel looks for a takedown but Boge sprawls well.
Dinkel bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Boge throws a hook but Dinkel avoids it easily.
Boge sets himself, and Dinkel steps forward looking for the clinch! Boge avoids it this time.
Dinkel tries for a takedown but Boge sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Dinkel slips a jab from Boge.
Boge throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Dinkel sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Boge misses with a shot to the body
and Dinkel makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Dinkel will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Boge is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Dinkel dives into side control.


Dinkel is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Boge is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Dinkel misses with the ground and pound.
Boge trying to remain calm as Dinkel controls from the top position.

Dinkel looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Boge is pushing Dinkel's head away, looking to escape. Dinkel manages to hold on to the position though.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Dinkel is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Boge has escaped the position, nice work there.

Dinkel decides to stand back up.
Boge throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Dinkel scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Dinkel stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Boge loads up on a big right hand but Dinkel slips the punch.

Boge looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Dinkel shapes to counter with a head kick.

A big left from Boge misses.
A shot to the body from Boge misses
and Dinkel counters with a one-two to the body.
Arik Boge seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Boge misses with a hook.
Boge falls off balance throwing a combination

and Dinkel counters by clinching up.
Dinkel changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Boge fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Arik Boge has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brian Dinkel.
Dinkel bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Dinkel takes the fight into the clinch.
Boge tries to circle away but Dinkel has him pinned against the cage.

Dinkel manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Dinkel slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dinkel accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Dinkel is standing up over Boge. Boge looks to escape but Dinkel dives into side control.

Dinkel decides to stand up, so the ref orders Boge to his feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Boge swings for the body but Dinkel moves out of range.

Dinkel shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Dinkel decides to stand and escape the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Brian Dinkel showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Boge takes a swing at Dinkel's ribcage but misses.

Dinkel changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Boge looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Dinkel happy to just control the position for now.
Dinkel passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Boge!
Dinkel thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Dinkel punching from mount but Boge doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Dinkel tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Boge has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever.

Boge defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Dinkel's arms.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Dinkel throwing sloppy strikes.
Dinkel misses with punches from the back.

Dinkel is persistently looking for the submission but Boge is defending it well.
Dinkel controls the position.

Dinkel looking to break Boge's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Boge remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Dinkel will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Dinkel misses with a punch to the head.

Arik Boge has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Even with his hooks in, Dinkel manages to miss with strikes from the back.
Boge is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Boge covering up well under a barage of strikes.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Brian Dinkel comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Dinkel winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
