Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Eddie Bravo (ranked 1682 p4p, 2117 weight class) and Ger McDonnell (ranked 229 p4p, 284 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Eddie Bravo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Ger McDonnell!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Donald Grub and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bravo avoids a punch combination nicely.
Bravo changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

McDonnell tries to improve position but can't.

Bravo is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but McDonnell is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Bravo wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by McDonnell, who protects the arm well.

Bravo thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
McDonnell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bravo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Bravo throws an elbow but McDonnell slips to the side and avoids it well.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
McDonnell tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Bravo wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
McDonnell avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Bravo.
McDonnell tries to bench press Bravo off him but Bravo keeps the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bravo works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Bravo wants to lay and pray for a moment but McDonnell keeps working.

Bravo swings around for an armbar but McDonnell sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Bravo's guard.

Eddie Bravo dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Bravo with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling McDonnell to score with a decent uppercut.
McDonnell lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
McDonnell lands with a nice body punch.
McDonnell looks to throw the jab but Bravo is out of range.
Bravo takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
McDonnell throws a looping overhand right but Bravo ducks down to avoid it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McDonnell uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Bravo has time to react.
McDonnell throws a leg kick which misses Bravo's front leg but catches the back leg as Bravo tries to avoid it.
McDonnell bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Bravo's head backwards.
Bravo looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Ger McDonnell is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Bravo defending well as McDonnell loads up on a big left hand.
Ger McDonnell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McDonnell throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Bravo counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Bravo.
Bravo wants to control from the top but McDonnell keeps moving.

Bravo drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and McDonnell dives on top into guard.


Bravo has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. McDonnell is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Bravo.

McDonnell gets to mount! Bravo was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Bravo is trying to reverse the position but instead McDonnell has taken his back - oops!
I really don't envy Bravo right now.
Bravo is working hard here to advance position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McDonnell is trying to stick to Bravo's back but Bravo is turning into McDonnell. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in McDonnell's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Bravo.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
McDonnell has his hands on Bravo's head, controlling the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
McDonnell stops Bravo from passing to mount.

Bravo goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, McDonnell has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Bravo but great work by McDonnell.

Bravo looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! McDonnell has picked Bravo up and slammed him! Bravo can't keep hold of the triangle and McDonnell manages to pass to side control!

Ger McDonnell showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

McDonnell scores with a hook to the body. Bravo takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
McDonnell might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
