The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dayton shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Thomson defends it nicely.
Dayton fails with the takedown
and Thomson counters with a right hand to the body.
Thomson swings for the body but Dayton moves out of range.
Dayton appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Dayton shoots for a double leg takedown but Thomson sprawls well. He's pushed Dayton 's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Small Dayton . That's going to take a lot out of him.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dayton jumps guard but Thomson stands there with Dayton around his waist. Dayton gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Dayton drops down looking for an ankle pick but Thomson pulls his leg out and moves away.
Dayton darts in looking for a takedown but Thomson gets double underhooks and turns Dayton into the cage.

Dayton is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Thomson defends well.
Thomson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Dayton has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Thomson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Thomson controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Dayton is looking for a triangle but Thomson pushes his legs off easily.

Thomson wants to control from the top but Dayton keeps moving.
Thomson postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dayton is looking to cinch up a triangle. Thomson throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Dayton 's body to avoid the submission. Dayton has instead reached around Thomson's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Dayton arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
