Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Muhammad Ali Jr! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Einars Kaulins! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, George Francis and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kaulins shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Ali Jr is trying to defend but Kaulins finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Kaulins takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Kaulins thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Ali Jr is defending against the submission attempts here by Kaulins.
Kaulins sitting and controlling from the half guard. Ali Jr knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kaulins on the ground. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. It looks like Kaulins might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ali Jr is trying to maintain the position but Kaulins is very close to passing his half guard. Kaulins seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Kaulins looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Ali Jr with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Kaulins looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kaulins decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. A swing and a miss from Ali Jr. A jab from Ali Jr misses. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Kaulins is defended easily by Ali Jr. A little feinted left hand from Ali Jr on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ali Jr lands a body shot.
Ali Jr definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Muhammad Ali Jr is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Ali Jr uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Ali Jr throws a shot from downtown. Kaulins moves away and avoids it. Kaulins darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Kaulins in particular looking to stall.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kaulins takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Kaulins seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Ali Jr is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Einars Kaulins! A very excited looking Einars Kaulins made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
