PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dawindi Buktot (ranked 24777 p4p, 24702 weight class) and Kulata Bitok (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kulata Bitok has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 17 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dawindi Buktot!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 19 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kulata Bitok!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Wesley Smith and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Bitok dives in for a single leg takedown but Buktot sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Bitok goes for a double leg but Buktot avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Buktot continues to drive forward.
Buktot fires out a quick counter leg kick but Bitok just manages to avoid it.

Bitok closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Bitok lands in his opponent's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bitok is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Buktot is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Bitok pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Buktot is keeping the position for now.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Buktot shoots in but Bitok avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Bitok fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Dawindi Buktot has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kulata Bitok.

Bitok throws a head kick that misses
and Buktot counters with a good, hard body kick but Bitok shrugs it off.

Bitok tries to sprawl but Buktot drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Bitok is trying to control but can't.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Buktot working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Bitok's thigh. Bitok counters though and makes it back to full guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Dawindi Buktot will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Bitok fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Bitok shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Bitok was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Buktot tries to buck Bitok off but Bitok is having none of it.

Buktot sneaks out the side door and pushes Bitok away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Bitok throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Buktot misses with a takedown attempt
and Bitok makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Buktot really felt that one!

Bitok steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.

Buktot quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.

Bitok bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Buktot is not content to let Bitok control the position.
Buktot struggling a bit here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bitok working the strikes but Buktot uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
Bitok with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Buktot tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Buktot is positioning himself well to prevent Bitok advancing to mount.
Buktot wants to improve his position but Bitok is controlling well.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bitok goes for a double leg but Buktot avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Buktot continues to drive forward.
Dawindi Buktot has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kulata Bitok.
Bitok stuffs the takedown attempt from Buktot. Buktot gets slowly back to his feet.
Bitok counters with a body kick.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Buktot is defended easily by Bitok.
Bitok replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Buktot blocks it well.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Kulata Bitok showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Buktot tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bitok sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Buktot somewhat.
Bitok flicks out a counter leg kick but Buktot steps away.
Horrible takedown attempt by Buktot or perhaps it was just good defense by Bitok, which made it look bad.

Bitok fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Buktot avoids it really well and circles away.

Bitok will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Bitok closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Buktot's guard.

Buktot is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Bitok tries to stand but Buktot is controlling from the bottom.
Bitok controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Buktot wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Buktot keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Dawindi Buktot has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kulata Bitok.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Bitok gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Buktot to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Bitok looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Buktot puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Buktot is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Dawindi Buktot.
I think Buktot has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
