PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Michael Nessen (ranked 3874 p4p, 5136 weight class) and Der Hund (ranked 399 p4p, 492 weight class). Hund has chosen Dogs of War as his entrance music. Michael Nessen is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Michael Nessen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Der Hund!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Colin Fray and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nessen takes a head kick and keeps coming.

Hund closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Hund trying to control the action but Nessen is working from the bottom.
Hund working the ground and pound.
Nessen is trying to get back to half guard.
Hund wants to lay and pray for a moment but Nessen keeps working.
Hund controlling the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nessen is trying to control Hund's posture but Hund avoids it.
Hund trying to control the position but Nessen is working away.

Hund decides to stand back up. Hund steps back and let's Nessen get back to his feet.
Hund misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
As Hund tries to get set, Nessen tries to push him back and clinch up but Hund manages to avoid the attempt.
Nessen with a poor takedown
and Hund counters with a nice uppercut.
Nessen tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hund defends well and Nessen ends up having to push Hund into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

Hund manages to break the clinch.

Nessen has managed to clinch.
Our sources have told us that Nessen has been working on his knees in the buildup to the fight.

Hund manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Hund avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Hund is trying to keep Nessen in close.
Nessen's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Nessen stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Nessen tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Nessen gets tackled into the cage by Hund. Hund maintains the clinch.

Hund drags the fight down to the ground.
Nessen slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nessen working some strikes from top position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Nessen trying to control the position from guard on top but Hund is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Nessen is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Hund is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Nessen throws a big right hand that misses.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nessen trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Nessen stays in close to Hund's body and controls the position.
Nessen wants to control from the top but Hund keeps moving.
Nessen wants to stand but Hund is controlling his posture from full guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
Hund really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nessen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hund is controlling Nessen's posture.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Hund clinches up with Nessen and pushes him back against the cage.

Hund escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Hund throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Nessen closes the distance and clinches up with Hund, looking for a takedown. Nessen pushes Hund against the cage but Hund circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Michael Nessen. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hund moves into range and clinches up with Nessen.

Hund pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Nessen.
Nessen backing away here, and Hund unleashes a leg kick that just misses.

Nessen rushes Hund and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Nessen takes an elbow to the temple.
Hund stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Nessen is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Nessen manages to pull guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Der Hund dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Nessen throws a body punch but Hund moves out of range.

Hund takes the fight into the clinch.

Hund breaks from the clinch.

Nessen has taken the fight to the clinch.
Nessen dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.

Hund successfully pulls guard.

Hund is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Hund breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hund lands with a nice combination. Nessen backs away looking to recover.

Hund instigates a clinch.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Hund on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Hund successfully pulls guard.

Nessen gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Nessen pushes Hund up against the cage in a clinch.
Nessen tries to score a body lock takedown but Hund shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Hund successfully pulls guard.
Hund keeping moving, preventing Nessen from controlling successfully.

Nessen got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hund has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Nessen has managed to get both his arms back between Hund's legs - danger averted.
Hund is trying to keep Nessen in close.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nessen's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Nessen postures up.
Nessen sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Nessen wants to control from the top but Hund keeps moving.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Nessen slips nicely into half guard.
Nessen working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Hund tries to roll over but Nessen keeps him under control.
Hund is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Nessen's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Nessen's back!
Hund punches the canvas rather than the man.
Hund struggling to keep hold of the position.

Hund really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Nessen.
Hund has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
I really don't envy Nessen right now.
Nessen trying to control the action but Hund just sinks the hooks in.
Hund throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Nessen!
Nessen manages to reverse the position and now he's in Hund's guard. Nice work there by Nessen.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hund can do anything to dispel that myth.

Hund is working an open guard so Nessen takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Hund displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Nessen.

Nessen stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Hund.
Hund looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

Hund gets a clinch.
Nessen's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Hund escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Hund defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Nessen.
Hund steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Nessen.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Michael Nessen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Nessen throws a leg kick which misses Hund's front leg but catches the back leg as Hund tries to avoid it.
Nessen fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Nessen closes the distance and clinches up with Hund, looking for a takedown. Nessen pushes Hund against the cage but Hund circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Nessen clinches up with Hund and pushes him back against the cage.

Hund breaks from the clinch.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Der Hund showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Nessen's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Hund pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Michael Nessen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Hund shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Nessen's guard.

Nessen wants to sweep but no luck.
Hund trying to control the position from guard on top but Nessen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

And Hund responds with a good body kick, but Nessen manages to step out the way in time.

and Hund counters with a two punch combo.

Hund closes the distance and clinches.
Hund comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Nessen fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Hund jumps guard.

Hund pushes Nessen off and scrambles back to his feet.
Nessen misses with a double jab.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Hund clinches up with Nessen and pushes him back against the cage.

Nessen is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Hund manages to pull guard.
Nessen trying to control but Hund is working from the bottom.
Nessen slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Nessen is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Hund has escaped the position, nice work there.
Hund is trying to control Nessen's posture but Nessen avoids it.

Nessen lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Hund down.
Nessen tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Nessen is chipping away with strikes.
Hund tries to strike from the bottom but misses.
Hund throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
Nessen in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Hund gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Nessen tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Nessen wants to pass the guard but Hund is defending well.

Nessen is working for a submission of some sort.
Hund is trying to get back to full guard.
Michael Nessen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Der Hund is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Der Hund has got the better of the ground game so far.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Nessen lands a nice short elbow.

And that's the end of the fight!
Der Hund comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Hund has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
