This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 13 wins and 16 losses; Dragon Li Chai! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 7 wins and 0 losses; Derek Erwin! The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Chai tries to keep at a distance but Erwin has taken the fight into the clinch. Erwin goes for a takedown in the clinch but Chai prevents it.
Erwin drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Chai has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Erwin after a bit of a struggle. Chai has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Chai goes for a takedown in the clinch but Erwin prevents it.
Chai tightens his grip and picks Erwin up, before dumping him to the ground. Erwin manages to land in guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Chai stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Erwin swivels though and keeps the full guard. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Chai might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Erwin in particular looking to stall. Chai is not content to let Erwin control the position. Chai is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Erwin's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Erwin's back! Score +4 for clean sweep to past guard: Chai (6) vs (2) Erwin Erwin is in bad spot here.
Erwin felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Chai tightening his grip on Erwin, looking for the choke.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Chai trying to control. Chai not allowing Erwin to control his hands. Chai patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here? Despite being in a bad position, Erwin is controlling the hands, preventing any submission attempts. Chai is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Erwin knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Erwin for a finish.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Chai is looking to control Erwin but Erwin is wriggling around and keeping busy.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Erwin can't escape the position.
Erwin fending off the submission attempt from Chai. Erwin prevents Chai from getting a body triangle. Chai seems to be going for a rear naked choke. He has an arm under Erwin's chin but Erwin turns very nicely into Chai's guard. Good BJJ skills being displayed there by Erwin.

Chai is trying to control the position but Erwin postures up. Erwin wants to pass the guard but Chai is keeping the position. Chai controls Erwin momentarily but Erwin frees himself. Erwin controlling from the top position. Chai is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

That's nine minutes gone in the round. Chai had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Erwin defends it easily. Erwin not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Erwin won't allow Chai to sweep him here. Erwin is stalling in the full guard. Chai trying to control the position.

That's ten minutes gone in the round. Chai manages to work his way to half guard, despite Erwin's best efforts. Chai tries to roll over but Erwin keeps him under control. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Chai is not content to let Erwin control the position. Chai wants to get back to full guard but Erwin has mounted him! Score +3 for passing guard: Chai (6) vs (10) Erwin Chai sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Chai is holding on to half guard well. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Erwin tries to pass to full mount but Chai defends it. Erwin prevents Chai from improving his position.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Chai is looking to control Erwin's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Chai avoid being mounted? Chai manages to get to full guard.

That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Chai looking to hit a scissor sweep but Erwin is one step ahead there. Erwin wants to control from the top but Chai keeps moving. Chai looking to control.

That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Chai working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Erwin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Erwin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Erwin is stalling in the full guard. Chai is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Chai keeping full guard, as Erwin tries to pass.
