PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Theodore Bundy (ranked 6360 p4p, 5955 weight class) and Pascal Papillon (ranked 264 p4p, 255 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Theodore Bundy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Pascal Papillon! The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Santiago Holmes and Winston Alpacca.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bundy tries to close the distance and clinch but Papillon swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Bundy tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Bundy on the wrong end of a nice hook. Bundy tries to clinch up and Papillon makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. A swing and a miss from Papillon. Bundy feinted with a counter takedown. Bundy connects with a body shot that sends Papillon's belly button to the back. Bundy takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bundy clinches with his opponent.

Bundy escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Bundy doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Papillon moves out of range as Bundy strikes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Papillon connects with a good right hand that stumbles Bundy. Bundy circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Papillon tries to keep at a distance but Bundy has taken the fight into the clinch. Bundy breaks from the clinch.
Bundy gets a takedown into half guard. Papillon has one foot on Bundy's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Papillon throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Papillon gets tackled into the cage by Bundy. Bundy maintains the clinch. Bundy definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Papillon misses with a punch to the body.
Bundy escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Papillon is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Papillon gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Bundy to score an easy takedown into full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bundy trying to control but Papillon is working from the bottom. Papillon seems keen to control Bundy's posture. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bundy tries to free his leg and advance position but Papillon is retaining full guard. Papillon wants to stand up but Bundy is controlling him. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Papillon holds on and takes a little breather.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bundy advances position into side control! Papillon is trying to get back to half guard. Bundy taking a break here but Papillon is having none of it and regains half guard. Bundy wants to lay and pray for a moment but Papillon keeps working.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Papillon tries to get to full guard but Bundy has control of the leg. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Papillon looking for submissions from an awkward position here. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Papillon wants to improve his position but Bundy is controlling well.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. We've been informed that Papillon has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight. Bundy is looking for a kimura here.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Pascal Papillon will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Bundy keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Papillon. Bundy throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Papillon throws a hook to the side of Bundy's head but Bundy sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Bundy appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Papillon ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Bundy moves away. As Papillon looks to move away, Bundy throws a big counter combo but Papillon just gets out of the way. Bundy gets in close and instigates a clinch. Papillon lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. Bundy is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Papillon gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Papillon creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Papillon working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely. Bundy tries to pull guard but Papillon won't allow it.

Papillon leaves Bundy with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Papillon is looking for the big counter here. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Theodore Bundy. That's going to take a lot out of him.

A jab from Papillon finds it's way through Bundy's defenses. Papillon swats away the attempt to clinch by Bundy. Bundy throws a head kick that misses. Papillon looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Bundy misses with a takedown and Papillon counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Papillon circles away from the clinch attempt.
Papillon tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Bundy was well out of range. Poor timing from Papillon. Bundy ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Bundy wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch. Bundy shoots in for a double leg but Papillon sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Pascal Papillon is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bundy with a poor takedown and Papillon counters with a nice uppercut. Papillon has been the more effective fighter overall so far. A head kick misses from Bundy. Papillon lands a slapping body shot.
Papillon swings and misses with a shot to the body and Bundy counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Papillon misses with a two punch combination.
Bundy wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch. Theodore Bundy is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. A big right from Bundy misses. A countering left hand to the body from Papillon misses. Bundy scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Bundy trying to advance position but Papillon counters by regaining guard. Papillon utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Papillon seems keen to control Bundy's posture.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bundy drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bundy jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Papillon wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Bundy trying to control the position from guard on top but Papillon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Papillon utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Bundy drives through with a takedown into Papillon's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Bundy wanted to stand there but Papillon had control of the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bundy in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Bundy trying to control the position from guard on top but Papillon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Bundy content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Papillon has locked up a guillotine! Papillon's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Bundy is holding on here and Papillon must be using up a lot of energy. Bundy has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Papillon gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
