PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Robert Laird (ranked 24555 p4p, 4150 weight class) and Les Biann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, Steve Erwin and Summer Carpenter.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Biann connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Biann lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Laird backs up against the cage.

It looks like Robert Laird has been cut.
Biann plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Biann misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Nice sprawl there from Biann as Laird shoots in.

Biann closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Laird has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Biann clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Laird has the hooks in. Biann is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Biann is trying to get back to his feet but Laird has full control of the position and if anything, Biann has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Laird is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Biann knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Biann for a finish.

Biann is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Laird is staying active.
Biann is trapped and Laird is scoring with shots to the head and body.
Biann breaks Laird's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Laird has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Biann is on him like a limpet, forcing Laird back against the cage.
Laird is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Biann gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Laird's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Biann tries to sprawl but Laird drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Laird shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Biann as he jumps to the side.
Biann drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Laird defends it well.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Laird thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Laird lands a couple of elbows.
Laird postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Biann is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Robert Laird overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Biann is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Biann wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Laird is now in half guard.

Laird wants to lay and pray for a moment but Biann keeps working.
Laird winds up and cracks Biann with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Laird takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Laird is nestled in close to Biann, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Laird lands a nice short elbow.

Laird has hold of Biann's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Biann manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
