The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Zaidi gets the takedown into side control.

We've been hearing good reports from Zaidi's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Serra is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Zaidi in side control, throwing shots but Serra defends.
The ground and pound from Zaidi seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Serra wants to control but Zaidi postures up.

Serra slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Serra wants to control but Zaidi is keeping busy.

Zaidi is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Zaidi looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Serra with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Serra with the active half guard here but Zaidi passes nicely into side control.
Zaidi tries to score with some ground and pound. Serra controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Serra wants to control but Zaidi postures up.

Serra takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Serra is rocked!
Zaidi looks up at the clock and then as Serra takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Zaidi smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Serra is still in real trouble! Can Zaidi finish him?
Zaidi cracks Serra with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! Zaidi immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! Serra is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Zaidi!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mohsin Zaidi!
A relieved looking Mohsin Zaidi thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
