The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kehoe misses with a two punch combination.
Mathews misses with the combination.
Kehoe moves into the clinch. Kehoe is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. Kehoe is trying to break the clinch but Mathews has him pressed against the cage. Kehoe is trying to break free. Kehoe goes for a takedown in the clinch but Mathews prevents it.
Kehoe wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Mathews has him pressed against the cage. Kehoe wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Mathews is pressed up against the cage. Kehoe has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Mathews down to the mat. Mathews avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kehoe misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tyler Kehoe. That's going to take a lot out of him. Kehoe lands with an uppercut that bounces Mathews off the cage and back into rage. Mathews tries for a takedown but Kehoe circles away easily and Kehoe counters with a nice double leg into guard. Mathews wants to stand up but Kehoe is controlling him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kehoe trying to control the position from guard on top but Mathews is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Mathews throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Kehoe looking to control the position here, rather than advance. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mathews can do anything to dispel that myth. Mathews looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Kehoe trying to control the position from guard on top but Mathews is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Kehoe prevents Mathews from getting back to his feet.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Kehoe fails with a takedown attempt. Mathews circles away from the clinch attempt.
Mathews moves into the clinch successfully.
Mathews wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Kehoe has him pressed against the cage. Mathews's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Kehoe shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mathews as he avoids it easily. Kehoe walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. The fight stays on the outside here - Kehoe looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Kehoe shoots in for a double leg but Mathews sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Kehoe is breathing heavily. Mathews throws a series of punches but Kehoe avoids them all with ease. Kehoe throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mathews's waist but Mathews gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kehoe off to one side.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kehoe fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Mathews tries to close the distance and clinch but Kehoe swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Mathews takes the fight into the clinch. Kehoe has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Mathews is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Mathews's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Mathews tries to clinch up but Kehoe circles away and keeps his distance. Mathews doesn't manage to clinch there - Kehoe circles away.
Mathews tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kehoe swats him away and circles back towards the center. Mathews drops Kehoe with a beautiful combination! Kehoe stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Mathews is looking for the KO!
Kehoe is rocked!
It looks like Tyler Kehoe has been cut. This has been an exciting period of action! Mathews lands with a big right hook that stumbles Kehoe - he's out on his feet here! Mathews follows up with another monster hook that separates Kehoe from consciousness! Kehoe falls, almost in slow motion to the canvas! Mathews stands and admires his work as the crowd go wild.
