The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Thomas looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for diaz! Thomas controlling from mount. Thomas prevents diaz from getting the reversal. diaz is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Thomas could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Thomas controlling from the full mount. Thomas prevents diaz from getting the reversal. Thomas sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Thomas knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for diaz on the ground. diaz is looking to improve his position but Thomas isn't that keen on the idea. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Thomas controlling from the full mount.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. diaz is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Thomas controlling his opponent. diaz keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Thomas looking to control and managing it successfully. diaz is in all sorts of trouble here.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Urijah Thomas just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. diaz lands with a nice body punch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Thomas slips a jab and a cross from diaz.
Thomas drives through with a takedown into guard. Thomas's corner is telling him to maintain position. diaz looking to hit a scissor sweep but Thomas is one step ahead there. Thomas prevents diaz from getting the reversal. Thomas controlling the position easily from mount. Thomas has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Thomas is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. diaz Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Thomas's back instead. Thomas wants to escape the position.
diaz punches the canvas rather than the man. diaz gets his hands free as Thomas looks to control. diaz is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Thomas is defending well though. diaz let's go of the attempt for now. diaz missing with strikes from the back. diaz is breathing heavily. diaz is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Thomas knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Thomas for a finish. Thomas wants to control his opponent's hands but diaz gets his hands free.

Thomas needs to remain patient if he's going to get out of this sticky situation. Thomas breaks diaz's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Thomas is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Thomas won't allow diaz to sweep him here. diaz is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Thomas seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Thomas won't allow diaz to sweep him here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Thomas is pushing down on diaz's leg trying to pass to half guard. diaz is fighting to maintain full guard but Thomas has managed to sneak the leg through. Thomas controls from within his opponent's guard. Urijah Thomas overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Thomas's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. diaz keeping moving, preventing Thomas from controlling successfully. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. diaz is staying active underneath Thomas, who seems content to just control the action from this position. diaz wants to get back to full guard. diaz is pressing down on Thomas's left leg trying to get back to full guard. Thomas looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Thomas seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down diaz for as long as he can get away with.
The referee stands the fighters back up. Urijah Thomas just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Thomas closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. diaz is looking for a sweep. Thomas trying to control the action but diaz is working from the bottom. diaz is trying to get back to half guard. diaz throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.
Thomas is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt diaz will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. diaz is looking for a sweep.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Thomas feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. diaz being controlled here, momentarily. Thomas preventing the sweep. Thomas tries to free his leg and advance position but diaz is retaining full guard. diaz throwing strikes off his back to little effect.

Thomas is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. diaz looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Thomas passes into half guard.
Thomas passes to side control. diaz regains half guard. Thomas is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. diaz looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
And that's the end of the fight! Urijah Thomas showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Thomas, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
