Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nick Griffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Verno Ackhbar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nick Griffin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Verno Ackhbar!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Frank Dennis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ackhbar bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Ackhbar has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Griffin!
Poor strikes thrown by Ackhbar there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Griffin avoids a series of strikes thrown by Ackhbar.
Ackhbar misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Ackhbar has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Griffin is looking to get to half guard.
Ackhbar lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Ackhbar manages to capitalize on a mistake by Griffin to take his back!

Griffin is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Ackhbar.

Griffin is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Ackhbar gets his way!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Griffin is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Ackhbar just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Griffin is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Ackhbar really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Griffin.
Let's hope that Ackhbar has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Ackhbar has the hooks in. Griffin is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Griffin isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Ackhbar stacks Griffin on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Ackhbar!

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Poor strikes thrown by Ackhbar there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Ackhbar goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Griffin is on top in guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ackhbar can do anything to dispel that myth.

Griffin looking to sit in guard and control but Ackhbar gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Ackhbar passes Griffin's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Ackhbar looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Griffin is looking to control Ackhbar's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Griffin avoid being mounted?
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Verno Ackhbar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Griffin is desperately trying to improve his position but Ackhbar has a good base and remains in mount.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Griffin is trying to reverse the position but instead Ackhbar has taken his back - oops!
Verno Ackhbar has got the better of the ground game so far.
I really don't envy Griffin right now.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Ackhbar is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.

Ackhbar is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Griffin up.

Ackhbar controlling the position well here. Griffin rolled but Ackhbar kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Nick Griffin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Verno Ackhbar is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Ackhbar is persistently looking for the submission but Griffin is defending it well.
