PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Lester Green (ranked 1090 p4p, 1555 weight class) and Lochlain OBrien (ranked 71 p4p, 99 weight class). Green's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, This Is Beetle. The crowd seem to be enjoying OBrien's choice of entrance music: Come out and fight!. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Lester Green!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lochlain OBrien!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Dillan Fox and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

OBrien takes the fight into the clinch.
A short left from Green.

OBrien gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Green regains guard.
OBrien is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
OBrien looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Green is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Green gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Green scrambles and gets back to his feet.

OBrien changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Green tries to avoid it but OBrien manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Green to the ground. Green escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Lester Green has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lochlain OBrien.

OBrien turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Green throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
No luck for OBrien with that takedown attempt.
Green tries a head kick but it misses.
OBrien changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

OBrien shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Green manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

OBrien is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
OBrien working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Green wants to clinch.
Green throws a big shot that misses.
OBrien takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Green gets tackled into the cage by OBrien. OBrien maintains the clinch.
OBrien goes for a takedown in the clinch but Green prevents it.

OBrien has Green pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Green manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Green is pressed up against the cage. OBrien has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Green down to the mat. Green avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

OBrien shoots in and drives through. Green sprawls well.
OBrien tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Green manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Green was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

OBrien shoots in but Green avoids the takedown attempt easily.
OBrien with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Green to score with a decent uppercut.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Green gets underhooks to prevent OBrien's takedown attempt.
OBrien goes for a takedown in the clinch but Green prevents it.
Green misses with the head strike.
OBrien is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Green is defending well.

OBrien has clasped his hands together around Green's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
OBrien wants to control but Green is keeping him busy.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

and OBrien takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

OBrien shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Green but Green pushes him off and we're back to square one.
OBrien misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Green thinks about countering with a body kick.
OBrien tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Green manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
OBrien moves in looking to clinch but Green pushes him off.
We've been told by Green's head coaches at The Nonce Hunters that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
OBrien tries to score a power double leg takedown but Green sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten OBrien somewhat.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from OBrien.
Green was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

OBrien drives through and clinches with Green against the cage.
Green tries to work over OBrien's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Green prevents a takedown attempt there.
Green controlling the action here for a moment.
Green is pressed up against the cage. OBrien has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Green down to the mat. Green avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

and Green makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Green throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Green stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Green wants it to stay on the feet.
OBrien shoots in looking for a takedown. Green tries to sprawl out of it but OBrien keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Green manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Lester Green dominated that second round.
That's time! Green's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

OBrien shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Green as he avoids it easily.
Green throws a one two combo.

OBrien is rocked!
OBrien drops his hands momentarily and Green needs no second invitation. He sets himself and throws a perfect high kick, that clips OBrien just on the top of the head. OBrien drops like a sack of potatoes to the canvas, out cold! Oooooooh yeah! Stick a fork in OBrien - he's done!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:14 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Lester Green!
