PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Minatay Mibangon (ranked 24679 p4p, 24613 weight class) and Wala Sapi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 22 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Minatay Mibangon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 21 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Alan Glass and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Mibangon.

Sapi dives in and scores a takedown into Mibangon's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Mibangon holds on and takes a little breather.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Sapi seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Mibangon gets the takedown into side control.

Mibangon seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Sapi for as long as he can get away with.
You can see the frustration on Sapi's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Sapi is letting Mibangon control him for a moment.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Mibangon continues to stall.
Sapi regains half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Minatay Mibangon will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!

Mibangon will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Sapi closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sapi lands in his opponent's guard.
Sapi passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Sapi wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mibangon keeps working.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sapi controls the position from side control.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Sapi slaps away a takedown attempt from Mibangon, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Mibangon gets caught flat footed, as Sapi shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Wala Sapi has got the better of the ground game so far.
Sapi wants to control from the top but Mibangon keeps moving.
Sapi engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Mibangon is controlling Sapi's posture.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sapi in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Wala Sapi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Sapi stays in close to Mibangon's body and controls the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Nice sprawl there from Sapi as Mibangon shoots in.
Sapi tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Mibangon goes for a double leg but Sapi avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Sapi continues to drive forward.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Minatay Mibangon. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mibangon is fighting off a takedown attempt but Sapi is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Mibangon to the mat. Mibangon regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Sapi is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Wala Sapi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Sapi has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
