Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tapani Kangas (ranked 3643 p4p, 3277 weight class) and Verney Lapierre (ranked 300 p4p, 272 weight class). Lapierre has chosen Sugar as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 6 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tapani Kangas! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Verney Lapierre! The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Anthony Taglia and Lou da Vinci.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kangas lands a nice looking body shot.
A looping hook to the body misses from Kangas. Lapierre does a little dance to reset his feet. Kangas misses with a double jab.
Lapierre loads up on a big right hand but Kangas slips the punch. Kangas displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Lapierre throws out the jab. Kangas throws a quick counter kick to the body but Lapierre avoids it. Lapierre scores with a punch to the head. Lapierre's corner calls for a 1-2. Lapierre obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Kangas throws a body shot but no joy. Kangas misses with a few strikes there.

and Kangas counters with a straight right hand. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lapierre throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Kangas blocks a jab. Lapierre gets a takedown into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Lapierre trying to control from half guard but Kangas is working away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lapierre is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Lapierre is keen to just control but Kangas is a slippery customer. Lapierre is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kangas is just riding it out for now. Lapierre eventually gives up the hold. Lapierre is looking to advance position but Kangas won't allow it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Kangas is looking for a sweep. Lapierre is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Lapierre seems to be looking for submissions.
Lapierre is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kangas is just riding it out for now. Lapierre eventually gives up the hold. Lapierre is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kangas defends it well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lapierre looking for a submission but Kangas manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.
Lapierre wants to control from the top but Kangas keeps moving. Kangas controlling Lapierre's posture. Lapierre sitting in guard here, content to control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Lapierre drops back, looking for a kneebar! Kangas looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Kangas looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Kangas! Lapierre tries to bench press Kangas off him but Kangas keeps the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lapierre struggling a bit here. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Lapierre is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Kangas is staying active. Lapierre is positioning himself to get back to half guard. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Verney Lapierre dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Lapierre moves out of range of the body kick from Kangas.
Kangas looks to land a left hand but Lapierre moved out of range nicely. Lapierre misses the shot to the body. Kangas moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. Kangas throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Lapierre on the side of the head. Lapierre swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Kangas ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Kangas pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Kangas throws a body shot but no joy. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Both fighters circling a little - Kangas finishes the exchange with a kick to the body. Kangas bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Lapierre just misses with a punch to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round. Lapierre gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Lapierre throws an overhand right that lands on Kangas's shoulder, as Kangas tries to avoid the shot. Lapierre throws a big shot that misses. A head kick by Kangas misses and Lapierre counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Kangas! Lapierre goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Kangas has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Lapierre but great work by Kangas. Lapierre is looking to reverse the position. Kangas trying to control the action but Lapierre is working from the bottom. Lapierre is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Lapierre is trying to work for a sweep but Kangas has mounted him!
That's two minutes gone in the round. This has been an exciting period of action! Lapierre bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Kangas is trying to keep Lapierre in close.

Lapierre trying to control the hands but Kangas won't let him. Verney Lapierre has got the better of the ground game so far. Lapierre is in bad spot here.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Tapani Kangas will probably get the nod. That's time! Kangas's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Lapierre gets in close and instigates a clinch. Lapierre is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Kangas gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Kangas goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
