PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Marshal Mayhem (ranked 2014 p4p, 2289 weight class) and Crush Bandicoot (ranked 175 p4p, 200 weight class). Mayhem's entrance music is Friday Night remixed by Astrophysics. A fine choice. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Marshal Mayhem!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 32 - 25 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Crush Bandicoot!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Glass and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bandicoot misses the jab.
Bandicoot throws a jab when Mayhem was well out of range.
A little feinted left hand from Mayhem on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Mayhem connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Nice jab there from Bandicoot.
A right-left combo lands from Mayhem.
Bandicoot takes a swing at Mayhem's ribcage but misses.
Mayhem misses with a wild body shot.
Mayhem misses with a body shot.
Bandicoot just misses with a punch to the body.
Mayhem tries to counter with a takedown but Bandicoot is quick to defend against it.
Bandicoot throws the left hand but Mayhem avoids the punch easily.
Bandicoot throws a lazy right hand but Mayhem sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Mayhem feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Mayhem lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Mayhem lands strikes from half guard.
Bandicoot is looking to improve his position.
Mayhem looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bandicoot with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Bandicoot has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Mayhem escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Mayhem!

Bandicoot throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Mayhem sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Bandicoot misses with a wild body shot.
Bandicoot throws a lazy right hand but Mayhem sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Mayhem connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Bandicoot's hands.
Mayhem lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Mayhem is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Bandicoot can do to turn this around?
Donk. Mayhem catches Bandicoot right on the button with a cross.
Bandicoot misses with a left hand
and Bandicoot takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Mayhem feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Bandicoots jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Bandicoot throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Mayhem blocks a jab.

and Mayhem counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd cheers as Mayhem lands an impressive looking overhand right. Bandicoot doesn't seem phased though.

Bandicoot throws a lazy right hand but Mayhem sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Mayhem is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Bandicoot throws the left hand but Mayhem avoids the punch easily.
Bandicoot throws a jab but it's blocked by Mayhem.

Mayhem shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Bandicoot napping and manages to drive through into side control!

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Mayhem lands a nice short elbow.

Bandicoot is looking for a sweep. Mayhem is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Mayhem wants to control but Bandicoot is keeping him busy.
Marshal Mayhem overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Mayhem takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Mayhem is keen to just control but Bandicoot is a slippery customer.
Mayhem working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Bandicoot bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Mayhem tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Bandicoot wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Mayhem has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mayhem manages to work his way to half guard, despite Bandicoot's best efforts.

That's time! Mayhem's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Mayhem cracks Bandicoot with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Mayhem takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Mayhem shoots in for a takedown but Bandicoot shows good takedown defense.
Mayhem slips a straight right by Bandicoot.
Bandicoot throws an overhand right that lands on Mayhem's shoulder, as Mayhem tries to avoid the shot.
Mayhem avoids a punch combination nicely.
Bandicoot takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Mayhem bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Bandicoot's head backwards.
It looks like Mayhem has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.
Bandicoot takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Mayhem lands a really nice looking cross but Bandicoot seems unphased.
Bandicoot misses with an uppercut
and Mayhem cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Mayhem drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mayhem is looking to work some ground and pound but Bandicoot has wrist control.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Mayhem's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bandicoot is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Bandicoot is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Bandicoot is looking to pass Mayhem's guard but actually Mayhem recovers to full guard.
Crush Bandicoot has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Mayhem wants to sweep here but Bandicoot controlling him for the moment.
Bandicoot wants to control from the top but Mayhem keeps moving.

Mayhem controls Bandicoot momentarily but Bandicoot frees himself.
Bandicoot won't allow Mayhem to sweep him here.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Mayhem preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Mayhem manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Bandicoot manages to get himself to full guard.


Mayhem avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Bandicoot got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mayhem has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bandicoot has managed to get both his arms back between Mayhem's legs - danger averted.
Bandicoot postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Marshal Mayhem.
Well Mayhem has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Marshal Mayhem tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
