Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hayden Taylor (ranked 3101 p4p, 4794 weight class) and Sage Kopel (ranked 432 p4p, 549 weight class). Hayden Taylor has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hayden Taylor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Sage Kopel!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Russell Pearce and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kopel slaps away a takedown attempt from Taylor, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Kopel looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Taylor avoids the head kick by Kopel.
Taylor tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kopel swivels and escapes.
Kopel throws a lazy head kick

and Taylor counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Kopel!
Taylor working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

Taylor decides to stand up, so the ref orders Kopel to his feet.

Taylor closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kopel is trying to improve his position.
Taylor wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kopel keeps working.

The referee asks Taylor politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Taylor prefers to stall for the moment though.

Taylor decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Kopel gets caught napping as Taylor dives in and scores a takedown. Kopel manages to retain guard.

Taylor decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Taylor tries to clinch but Kopel is having none of it.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hayden Taylor. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Taylor throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Kopel on the side of the head.

Taylor closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Taylor lands in his opponent's guard.

Kopel pushes Taylor off and scrambles back to his feet.
Kopel has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Horrible takedown attempt by Taylor or perhaps it was just good defense by Kopel, which made it look bad.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Taylor enables Kopel to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Taylor manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Taylor escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kopel gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Taylor working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kopel doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kopel manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Taylor is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That was a close round but I would say that Hayden Taylor will probably get the nod.

Taylor escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kopel gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Taylor is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Taylor is pressing down on Kopel's thigh, looking to free his foot. Kopel is holding on for now.
Taylor perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Taylor wants to pass the guard but Kopel is defending well.

Taylor seems to be working for a kimura but Kopel defends the submission attempt.

Taylor thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Taylor tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kopel knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Taylor wants to control from the top but Kopel keeps moving.

Taylor feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Taylor, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
