PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Benjamin Angle (ranked 3950 p4p, 2510 weight class) and Vu Viet Hu (ranked 317 p4p, 215 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Benjamin Angle has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Benjamin Angle seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Benjamin Angle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vu Viet Hu!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Roosa Järviläinen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A cross from Angle lands.
Angle stuffs the takedown attempt from Hu. Hu gets slowly back to his feet.
Angle thuds a left hand into Hu's body.
Hu takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Hu shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Angle sprawls well. Angle wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Hu gets slowly back to his feet.
Angle is looking to counter punch.
Hu takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Angle takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Angle bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Angle, as that shot connected.
Angle looks to land a combination. Hu sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Angle connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Hu doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Angle throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Hu is trying hard to land a takedown here. Angle sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
A little feinted left hand from Angle on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Benjamin Angle has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vu Viet Hu.
A good leg kick by Angle.
Hu tries for a takedown but Angle sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Angle stalks Hu and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Hu's face. Hu staggers backwards, shaken.
Benjamin Angle is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Angle dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Angle throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Hu looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Angle!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Angle is pushing Hu's head away, looking to escape. Hu manages to hold on to the position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Hu is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Angle knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Hu wants to lay and pray for a moment but Angle keeps working.

Hu is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Angle has escaped the position, nice work there.

Hu thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Angle wants to control but Hu postures up.

Hu tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hu wants to control but Angle is keeping him busy.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Angle is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Hu asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Hu is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Angle has escaped the position, nice work there.
Angle is looking to regain half guard here but Hu keeps moving and retains side control.

Hu working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Hu trying to control the action but Angle is working from the bottom.

Hu tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hu has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Hu trying to control the position but Angle is working away.

Hu thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Benjamin Angle dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Hu walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Angle cracks Hu with a right hand to the side of the head.
Angle throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Angle scores with a crisp jab that stopped Hu in his tracks.
Hu tries for a takedown but Angle circles away easily
and Angle cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Angle lands a nice looking body shot.

Hu moves out of range as Angle throws a body kick.
Hu shoots in for a takedown but Angle shows good takedown defense.
Hu gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Angle counters with a nice body shot.
Benjamin Angle has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vu Viet Hu.
Angle throws a series of strikes that have Hu backpedaling.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hu closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Angle keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Hu tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Angle swivels and escapes.
Hu looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Benjamin Angle seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Angle throws a series of strikes that have Hu backpedaling.

Hu scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Angle wants to get back to his feet.
Hu wants to lay and pray for a moment but Angle keeps working.
Angle pushes Hu off looking to stand but Hu dives back in and keeps control.
Angle is refusing to be controlled, as Hu sits in half guard.
Vu Viet Hu has got the better of the ground game so far.

Hu is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Angle doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Hu.
Angle looks like he's trying to stand up.

Hu looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Angle is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hu prevents Angle from standing back up.
Angle tries to get to full guard but Hu has control of the leg.
Hu is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Hu is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Angle to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Angle shrugs it off.
Angle really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Angle prevents any damage by holding on tight.
Angle wants to control but Hu is having none of it.
Angle is squirming around, avoiding Hu's attempts to control the action.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Angle can't escape the position.
Angle squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Angle tries to hold on but Hu pushes him away.
Angle knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hu on the ground.
Angle is trying to escape the mount but Hu keeps good control and instead manages to take Angle's back.
Angle is trying to get back to his feet but Hu has full control of the position and if anything, Angle has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Hu has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. Angle is defending well but eventually Hu manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! Angle has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Vu Viet Hu!
During a confident post fight interview, Vu Viet Hu thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
