Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dave Abbott (ranked 3578 p4p, 3820 weight class) and Ripley West (ranked 388 p4p, 408 weight class). Ripley West has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dave Abbott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ripley West!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Steve Montenegro and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
West closes the distance and lands a one-two.

It looks like Dave Abbott has been cut.
Abbott closes the distance and clinches up with West, looking for a takedown. Abbott pushes West against the cage but West circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
West feints the counter takedown.
West throws a push kick but Abbott slaps the foot to one side.
Abbott shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with West but West pushes him off and we're back to square one.
West lands a really nice looking cross but Abbott seems unphased.

Oh, that's a big right hand from West and Abbott goes tumbling to the canvas! West follows him to the ground and looks to finish from half guard.

Abbott is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
West with the ground and pound but Abbott uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Abbott is trying to keep West in close.
West with a flurry of punches that miss.
Abbott on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Abbott tries to get out of the position.
Abbott manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. West manages to get himself to full guard.

Abbott controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Abbott throws an elbow that misses. West uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Abbott's guard. Nice move by West!

West postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

West wants to control from the top but Abbott keeps moving.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Abbott is on top in guard.

West is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Abbott slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Abbott is on top in guard.

Abbott definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Abbott connects with a couple of short punches.

Abbott stays in close to West's body and controls the position.

Ripley West dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Dave Abbott's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

West lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Abbott circles away quickly and effectively.
West moves out of range of the strikes.
West bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Abbott's head backwards.
West lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
West has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Abbott shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says West as he avoids it easily.
Dave Abbott is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

West drops Abbott with a nice combination! West dives into Abbott's guard, looking to finish!
Oh Abbott is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Abbott is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. West is aware though and is defending well.

Abbott seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Dave Abbott overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
West not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Abbott seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down West for as long as he can get away with.
Abbott passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Abbott is looking to take a break and control but West is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Abbott throws a series of punches but West moves out of range.
West fails to land with a series of punches.

West lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Abbott takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
West comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Nice sprawl there from West as Abbott shoots in.
Abbott shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has West pinned against the cage. West gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dave Abbott. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
West lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
West scores with a hook to the body. Abbott takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Ripley West seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
West tries a head kick but it misses.
Abbott drops down looking for a counter takedown but West sprawls and moves away.
Abbott misses with a few strikes there.
West tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
A jab lands there for West.
West throws a one two combo.
West is breathing heavily.
West scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
West has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
West moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Abbott shoots in but West avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Abbott tries for a takedown but West sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ripley West showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

West connects with a looping right hand.
West throws a leg kick but Abbott checks it.
Abbott moves forwards but West connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Abbott has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Abbott fails to land the takedown.
West connects with a nice cross there... Abbott is looking wobbly and West recognises it - he's rushed in and lands two more brutal shots that send Abbott to the canvas, out cold! A brutal finish to the fight - West jumps onto the cage to celebrate with the crowd!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:29 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Ripley West!
Ripley West was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
