PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Finch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Deniz Koc (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Ryan Finch has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Ryan Finch seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ryan Finch!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Deniz Koc!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Seu Braga and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Finch displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Koc.

Finch feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Koc tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Finch keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Koc's head.
Koc is adopting a defensive guard.
Koc is trying to keep Finch in close.

Koc utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Finch knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Koc on the ground.
Finch has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Koc is proving hard to escape from.
Koc wants to sweep but no luck.
Finch stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Koc swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Koc has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Finch off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Finch darts in and clinches Koc up against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Koc escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Koc cracks Finch with a right hand to the side of the head.
Finch steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Koc.
Koc has a takedown stuffed.

Finch closes the distance and pushes Koc back into the cage.

Finch ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Finch no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Finch thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Koc passes into half guard.
Finch missing with punches from the bottom.
Koc wants to pass to mount but Finch is defending the position.

Koc wants to work for an arm triangle but Finch is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Koc looks gassed!

Koc is keen to just control but Finch is a slippery customer.

Koc seems to be working for a kimura but Finch defends the submission attempt.
Koc is trying to control the action in half guard but Finch is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Finch moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Finch on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Finch tries to get out of the position.

Finch is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Koc defends well.
Finch lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Koc!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Koc is trying to escape the mount.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Finch with shots to the head and body - Koc looks very uncomfortable down there.
Finch landing strikes, looking to finish!
Koc is bucking up trying to escape but Finch cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Koc working to try and regain half guard.
Finch looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Koc is wriggling around trying to escape.
The referee warns Koc that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryan Finch dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Finch throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Koc stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Koc misses with a takedown attempt
and Finch counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Koc shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Finch but Finch pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Finch lands with a nice body punch.

Finch decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Finch thows a huge punch but Koc dodges it nicely.

Finch landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Koc has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Finch escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Finch!

Koc tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Finch easily slips into full mount!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Finch has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Koc's face.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Finch cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Finch lands a big shot there that rocks Koc but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Koc is bucking up trying to escape but Finch cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Koc wants to hold on but Finch pushes him away.
The referee warns Koc that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Koc sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Koc is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Finch is controlling him.

Ryan Finch overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Finch is squirming around, avoiding Koc's attempts to control the action.

Koc is landing with some decent strikes but Finch is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Finch is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Koc controlling his opponent.
Let's hope that Koc has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Koc prevents Finch from getting the reversal.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Koc scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Koc looking to control but Finch is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Finch throwing hammer fists to the chest of Koc. What's that going to do exactly?
Koc tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Finch is desperately trying to improve his position but Koc has a good base and remains in mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Koc looks to clinch

and Finch decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Koc's guard.
Koc has his hands on Finch's head, controlling the position.

Despite being in the dominant position, Deniz Koc just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and Finch counters with a shoot takedown. Koc fights it but they end up in guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Finch working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Finch thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Koc's head.
Koc is controlling Finch's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Koc is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Koc passes to side control.

Koc wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Finch, who protects the arm well.
Koc is chipping away with strikes.
Koc lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Finch is looking to reverse the position.
Koc passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Finch!
Deniz Koc has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ryan Finch is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Koc is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Finch can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ryan Finch showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Finch has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
