PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mitsugu Takeishi (ranked 1826 p4p, 1983 weight class) and Carlton Smithers (ranked 95 p4p, 99 weight class). Takeishi comes into the arena with Kabuki Gomen-Jyo blaring out of the sound system. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 33 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mitsugu Takeishi! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Carlton Smithers! The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Ren Mimura.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Takeishi staying out of range there. Takeishi misses with a takedown attempt - Smithers sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Takeishi closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Smithers lands a nice uppercut. Smithers tries a body shot but Takeishi blocks it.
Smithers misses with a body punch.
Smithers tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Smithers misses with a hook from the clinch. Takeishi is working for takedown but Smithers is calmly controlling the position for now. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Takeishi prevents a body shot from Smithers. Smithers working some nice short punches in the clinch. Smithers swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Takeishi blocks a body shot from Smithers. Smithers tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Takeishi prevents Smithers from breaking the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smithers lands a left hand.
Smithers misses with a punch to the body.
Smithers is defending well against a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mitsugu Takeishi. That's going to take a lot out of him. Smithers breaks from the clinch.
Takeishi has been working on his boxing with his coaches at 3Band MMA in the buildup to the fight. Takeishi shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Smithers pinned against the cage. Smithers gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Smithers scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Takeishi on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
It looks like Mitsugu Takeishi has been cut. Smithers ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Takeishi is breathing heavily. Smithers feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Takeishis jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Takeishi throws a head kick that misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smithers defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Takeishi. Smithers lands an uppercut out of nowhere! Takeishi falls backwards - clearly groggy! Smithers dives in and finishes the fight with more strikes for a TKO finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:11 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Carlton Smithers! Carlton Smithers seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
