Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gaven Mcqueen (ranked 6075 p4p, 5945 weight class) and Roman Welch (ranked 0 p4p, 547 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mcqueen has a takedown stuffed.
Roman Welch seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mcqueen tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Welch defends well and Mcqueen ends up having to push Welch into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Welch unleashes a big counter combination but Mcqueen bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Mcqueen drops down looking for an ankle pick but Welch pulls his leg out and moves away.
Welch's coach down at Cozad The Island was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Welch's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Mcqueen is working an open guard so Welch takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Mcqueen doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Welch counters with a three punch combo that has Mcqueen backing up. Mcqueen nods at Welch to acknowledge the strikes.

Mcqueen changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Welch tries to avoid it but Mcqueen manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Welch to the ground. Welch escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Mcqueen is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Welch presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Welch rushes Mcqueen and presses him up against the cage.
Welch is trying to drag Mcqueen to the mat but Mcqueen just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Welch really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mcqueen . If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Let's hope that Welch has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
