Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gaven Mcqueen (ranked 6075 p4p, 5945 weight class) and Roman Welch (ranked 0 p4p, 547 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Gaven Mcqueen ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Roman Welch! The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Daniel Franklin and Sandra Marshall.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mcqueen has a takedown stuffed. Roman Welch seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Mcqueen tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Welch defends well and Mcqueen ends up having to push Welch into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Welch unleashes a big counter combination but Mcqueen bobs and weaves and avoids any damage. Mcqueen drops down looking for an ankle pick but Welch pulls his leg out and moves away.
Welch's coach down at Cozad The Island was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Welch's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gaven Mcqueen . That's going to take a lot out of him. Welch doesn't manage to clinch there - Mcqueen circles away.
Welch closes the distance and clinches. Welch tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Mcqueen smiles and moves away.
Welch throws a right and a left that Mcqueen avoids nicely. Mcqueen swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect. Mcqueen looks for a takedown but Welch sprawls well. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mcqueen closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Mcqueen wants to lay and pray for a moment but Welch keeps working. Welch is concentrating on defense, preventing Mcqueen from advancing position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Welch trying to control but Mcqueen postures up.
Mcqueen is figuring out what he wants to do next. Welch preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head. Welch gets full guard. Mcqueen wants to control from the top but Welch keeps moving. Welch trying to keep a closed guard but Mcqueen is proving a slippery customer.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Mcqueen is looking to stand up but Welch won't let him.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Welch lands a lovely overhand right. Welch lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Welch.
It looks like Gaven Mcqueen has been cut. Mcqueen will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Mcqueen misses with a takedown and Welch counters with a series of strikes. Mcqueen will be more careful next time no doubt. Mcqueen clinches with his opponent.
Welch pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Mcqueen is trying hard to land a takedown here. Welch sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Mcqueen is breathing heavily. Welch shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mcqueen but Mcqueen pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Welch shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mcqueen sprawls well. Mcqueen wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Welch gets slowly back to his feet. Mcqueen darts in trying to clinch and Welch decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Mcqueen 's guard. Mcqueen had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Welch defends it easily. Welch wants to stand but Mcqueen is controlling his posture from full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Welch is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Mcqueen is working an open guard so Welch takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Welch looks for a takedown but Mcqueen sprawls well. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Roman Welch dominated that round. The cut man is working on Gaven Mcqueen 's cut. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Mcqueen doesn't succeed with the takedown and Welch counters with a three punch combo that has Mcqueen backing up. Mcqueen nods at Welch to acknowledge the strikes. Welch throws a shot to the body.
Mcqueen throws a solid leg kick but Welch takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Mcqueen . Welch lands with a kick to the ribs.
Mcqueen changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Welch tries to avoid it but Mcqueen manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Welch to the ground. Welch escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Mcqueen gets caught napping as Welch dives in and scores a takedown. Mcqueen manages to retain guard. Mcqueen is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Welch presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Mcqueen goes for a takedown in the clinch but Welch prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gaven Mcqueen . That's going to take a lot out of him. Welch doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

That's one minute gone in the round. Welch is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Welch postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Welch tries to free his leg and advance position but Mcqueen is retaining full guard. Welch trying to control the position from guard on top but Mcqueen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Welch slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Mcqueen wants to stand and escape but Welch is having none of it.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Welch rushes Mcqueen and presses him up against the cage. Welch is trying to drag Mcqueen to the mat but Mcqueen just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Mcqueen looking for a takedown. Welch has had enough of the clinch but Mcqueen keeps him there for the moment. Mcqueen pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Welch connects with a body shot. Welch tries to close the distance and clinch but Mcqueen swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Mcqueen misses with a double jab
and Welch counters with a left and a right that stings Mcqueen .
That's three minutes gone in the round. Welch wants to clinch and Mcqueen counters with a nice double leg into side control. Welch won't be happy with that. Welch is trying to control Mcqueen 's posture but Mcqueen avoids it. Welch really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mcqueen . If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Mcqueen wants to control but Welch is keeping him busy. Welch has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Welch tries to escape but Mcqueen is in control. Mcqueen decides to take the fight back to the feet. Mcqueen gets caught napping as Welch dives in and scores a takedown. Mcqueen manages to retain guard.

Welch stops Mcqueen from standing up. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Roman Welch showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Gaven Mcqueen 's cut. That's time! Mcqueen 's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round! Mcqueen keeps the fight on the outside. Mcqueen went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Welch tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mcqueen swats him away and circles back towards the center. No luck with that takedown attempt from Welch. Mcqueen lands a high kick!
Mcqueen manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Welch on his heels. He'll look to pass Welch's guard now, I'm sure. Mcqueen looking to sit in guard and control but Welch gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Mcqueen trying to keep a closed guard but Welch is proving a slippery customer.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mcqueen is really struggling to control Welch but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Both fighters are breathing heavily. Welch is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Let's hope that Welch has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Mcqueen looking to control.

Welch wants to stand and escape but Mcqueen is having none of it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are working up against the cage. Welch manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage. Mcqueen breaks from the clinch.
Mcqueen avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Mcqueen tries to clinch but Welch moves out of range. Welch has a takedown stuffed. Welch wants to clinch. Welch fails with an attempt to clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Welch leaves Mcqueen with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Mcqueen defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Welch. Gaven Mcqueen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Roman Welch. Welch comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Mcqueen shoots for a double leg takedown but Welch sprawls well. He's pushed Mcqueen 's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Mcqueen blocks a head kick by Welch.
Mcqueen moves into the clinch. Mcqueen has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Welch uses from the top position. Mcqueen throws a nice elbow from the bottom. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Welch would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Gaven Mcqueen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Roman Welch is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Mcqueen is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
And that's the end of the fight! Gaven Mcqueen showed his dominance in that final round. Well Welch has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
