This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 14 wins and 14 losses; Boris Balkan! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 17 wins and 16 losses; Jackson Ramirez! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Paulo Santos and Luis Engracia.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Balkan tries to clinch there but Ramirez circles away.
Balkan fails in his attempt to clinch. Ramirez steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Balkan. Ramirez fails with a takedown attempt. Balkan instigates a clinch. Ramirez decides to pull guard. Ramirez has his hands on Balkan's head, controlling the position. Ramirez is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Balkan passes into half guard. Balkan wants to free his trapped foot but Ramirez is holding on for dear life with his legs.
That's one minute gone in the round. Balkan controlling the action here. Ramirez told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet. Balkan will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Ramirez is desperately trying to improve his position but Balkan has a good base and remains in mount.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Balkan controlling the pace for now. Ramirez is trying desperately to improve position. That's three minutes gone in the round. Balkan fails to move to back control. Balkan is working hard here to advance position. Balkan tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Ramirez really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Balkan has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Ramirez's body.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Balkan is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Ramirez is aware though and is defending well. Ramirez wants to control from the top but Balkan keeps moving.

Ramirez lying in Balkan's guard like a wet fish here, stalling away. Balkan decides he's had enough of all that nonsense - he escapes his hips and locks up an armbar! Wow, that was slick!
