PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kelly Stonehouse (ranked 4409 p4p, 5393 weight class) and Enjy Chek (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Enjy Chek told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kelly Stonehouse! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Enjy Chek! The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Sandra Marshall and Winston Alpacca.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Stonehouse blocks the body kick.
A momentary lapse in concentration from Stonehouse enables Chek to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Stonehouse manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Stonehouse is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Stonehouse is looking for a triangle but Chek pushes his legs off easily.
Stonehouse is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Stonehouse with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Stonehouse looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Chek wants to improve his position but Stonehouse is controlling well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stonehouse trying to control from half guard but Chek is working away. Chek controlling the position well. Stonehouse missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Chek is looking for a sweep. Stonehouse is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Chek tries to kick Stonehouse off but Stonehouse keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Chek wants to control but Stonehouse is keeping busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Stonehouse is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Chek doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Stonehouse. Stonehouse wants to control but Chek is keeping him busy. Chek pushes Stonehouse off looking to stand but Stonehouse dives back in and keeps control.
Chek is looking to improve his position.
Stonehouse uses his free foot to push down on Chek's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Chek. Stonehouse tries to control but Chek wriggling away. Stonehouse works his way to his opponent's back.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Stonehouse is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Chek has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here. Chek prevents Stonehouse from getting a body triangle. Chek just trying to survive but Stonehouse is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish. Chek really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Stonehouse. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Chek is in a bad position with Stonehouse working for a choke. Chek manages to spin nicely into guard and the danger is over for the moment. Stonehouse not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Chek wants to pass the guard but Stonehouse is keeping the position. Stonehouse controlling the position. Chek throws a big elbow that misses. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Stonehouse is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Chek is trying is best to control the position here. Stonehouse wants to lay and pray for a moment but Chek keeps working. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Kelly Stonehouse dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action! Chek takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Chek throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean. Stonehouse is looking to counter with a shot to the body. Stonehouse is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Stonehouse lands a nice shot that snaps Chek's head back.
Stonehouse tries to clinch but Chek moves out of range. Stonehouse throws an overhand right that lands on Chek's shoulder, as Chek tries to avoid the shot. Stonehouse misses the shot to the body. Chek follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Chek swats away the attempt to clinch by Stonehouse. Chek shoots in and bounces Stonehouse off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Stonehouse working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Chek doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Chek manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stonehouse working for submissions but it's allowed Chek to get to half guard.
Stonehouse tries to roll over but Chek keeps him under control. Stonehouse makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Stonehouse. Chek works a leg free and moves into half guard. Stonehouse is trying to maintain the position but Chek is very close to passing his half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Stonehouse is desperately trying to improve his position but Chek has a good base and remains in mount. Stonehouse manages to regain half guard. Good work. Stonehouse tries to get to full guard but Chek has control of the leg. Chek thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Stonehouse's head. Stonehouse actively working from the bottom here. Enjy Chek has got the better of the ground game so far. Chek is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Stonehouse regains full guard. Nicely done. Stonehouse is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Chek is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Stonehouse bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Chek's guard. Stonehouse trying to control but Chek is working from the bottom. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Enjy Chek will probably get the nod - 10:9. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round! Stonehouse works the jab nicely. Stonehouse tries to sprawl but Chek drives through with a takedown into half guard. Chek stalling. Chek wants to take a breather but Stonehouse is having none of it. Stonehouse trying to hold on to Chek's head to control him but Chek postures up.
Stonehouse is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Chek pulls his head out easily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Stonehouse controls from within his opponent's guard. Chek looking to hit a scissor sweep but Stonehouse is one step ahead there. Stonehouse passes into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Stonehouse is keen to just control but Chek is a slippery customer. Stonehouse is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Chek is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Stonehouse is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Chek sees it coming and defends easily. Chek looks like he's trying to stand up.
Stonehouse is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Chek is defending against the submission attempts here by Stonehouse.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Stonehouse is trying to control. Chek wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Stonehouse is really struggling to control Chek but he's trying to hold on to the position. Chek is doing well to control the position and prevent Stonehouse from advancing to side control. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Stonehouse in particular looking to stall. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Stonehouse sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Chek defending well though. Stonehouse prevents Chek from improving his position.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Enjy Chek. I think Chek has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
