The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Grappler feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. We've been hearing good reports from Maica's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Grappler is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Maica wants to sweep but no luck. Grappler lands a couple of elbows. Grappler controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. It looks like Grappler might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Good little attack there by Grappler.
Grappler has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Grappler slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
