Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dustin Fahey (ranked 24712 p4p, 1858 weight class) and Ricky Alvarez (ranked 581 p4p, 250 weight class). Ricky Alvarez struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 156.1lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dustin Fahey! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ricky Alvarez! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Columbo Gatti and Anthony Taglia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alvarez looks to land a combination but Fahey avoids it well. Fahey slips a jab and a cross from Alvarez.
Alvarez throws a right and a left that Fahey avoids nicely. Fahey seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter. Alvarez lands with a nice combination. Fahey backs away looking to recover. Alvarez scores with a crisp jab that stopped Fahey in his tracks. Alvarez throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Fahey really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Alvarez scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Alvarez throws a body punch but Fahey moves out of range. Alvarez's coach down at California Top Team was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Alvarez's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Some wild striking there from Alvarez.
Horrible takedown attempt by Fahey or perhaps it was just good defense by Alvarez, which made it look bad. Fahey fails to land with a series of punches.
Alvarez works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Fahey instigates a clinch. Fahey looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Fahey tries to throw a body punch but Alvarez avoids it by throwing Fahey back against the cage. Alvarez looking to throw knees to the head but Fahey is blocking nicely.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alvarez tries to land knees in the clinch but Fahey avoids the damage to the body. Fahey is stalling here.
Alvarez using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Fahey has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

A left hand lands to the body for Alvarez.
Alvarez lands a right hand that snaps the head of Fahey backwards. Alvarez lands with a right to the head. Alvarez looking to throw knees to the head but Fahey is blocking nicely.

Alvarez misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Fahey.
Alvarez throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Fahey blocks it with crossed arms. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Alvarez creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Alvarez manages to break the clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alvarez buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Fahey does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Alvarez let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land. Alvarez lands with a shot to the body. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Fahey on the wrong end of a nice jab. Alvarez lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Fahey throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
A little jabbing left from Alvarez on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. A jab from Alvarez misses. Alvarez jabs Fahey to the body, keeping him at a distance. Alvarez misses with an uppercut. Alvarez throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Alvarez fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Alvarez connects with a single shot there. Ricky Alvarez is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Alvarez moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Fahey closes the distance and clinches up with Alvarez, looking for a takedown. Fahey pushes Alvarez against the cage but Alvarez circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Fahey is breathing heavily. Alvarez with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Alvarez stuffs the takedown attempt from Fahey. Fahey gets slowly back to his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dustin Fahey. That's going to take a lot out of him. A chopping leg kick lands by Alvarez. Fahey takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Fahey fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Alvarez to the ground. Fahey is now in Alvarez's guard. Alvarez is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Fahey throws a strike but Alvarez rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Alvarez pushes down on Fahey's leg and manages to get into half guard. Alvarez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Fahey keeps working. Fahey wants to get back to his feet.
Alvarez drops an elbow to the side of Fahey's head. Fahey is staying active underneath Alvarez, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Alvarez is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Fahey knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Alvarez on the ground. Alvarez seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Alvarez wants to work for an arm triangle but Fahey is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Ricky Alvarez dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Alvarez lands a really nice looking cross but Fahey seems unphased.
Fahey on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Alvarez moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Alvarez cracks Fahey with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Alvarez lands a lovely overhand right. Alvarez throws a right hand that Fahey ducks under and follows up with a left that Fahey also avoids with ease. The fighters circle momentarily. Alvarez darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Alvarez scores with a decent looking hook. Alvarez lands a glancing blow to the side of Fahey's head. Fahey tries for a takedown but Alvarez circles away easily and Alvarez counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Fahey is rocked! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Fahey throws a head kick that misses. Alvarez scores with a nice head shot. Oh Fahey is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Fahey looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Fahey seems to have got his legs back now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fahey takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Alvarez connects with a single shot there. A low kick lands for Alvarez.
Fahey takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Alvarez throws a wild combination but nothing lands. As Alvarez backs away, Fahey returns fire with a leg kick that just misses. Alvarez scores with a jab to the jaw. Alvarez scores with a nice strike. Alvarez connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Alvarez throws an overhand right from the outside, which connects and sends Fahey stumbling backwards into the cage! Fahey bounces back off the cage towards Alvarez, who cracks him with a two punch combination that drops him to his knees! Alvarez lands two more shots before the referee has chance to intervene - what a finish! Alvarez celebrates with his corner as the crowd cheer loudly.
