PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Conrad Mesko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Piper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mesko comes to the cage accompanied by Pain !. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Conrad Mesko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Peter Piper!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Piper slips under a jab.
Mesko ducks under a wild hook from Piper.
Mesko fails to land with a series of punches.
Piper fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Piper tries to clinch up but Mesko circles away and keeps his distance.
A head kick misses from Piper.
Piper tries to clinch up.
Mesko throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Mesko misses with a jab, cross combination.
Mesko misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Piper tries to clinch but Mesko is having none of it.
Piper changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mesko tries to avoid it but Piper manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mesko to the ground. Mesko escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Piper avoids the body shot from Mesko.
Mesko misses with the combination.
Nice takedown defense from Mesko. No joy for Piper on that attempt.
Conrad Mesko has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Peter Piper.
Mesko misses with a few strikes there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mesko throws a shot from downtown. Piper moves away and avoids it.
Piper throws a sloppy head kick and Mesko moves out of range easily.
Piper wants to clinch up but Mesko keeps it at a distance.
Piper will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Mesko misses with a series of wild punches.
Mesko will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Mesko throws a right and a left that Piper avoids nicely.

Piper is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Piper scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Mesko doesn't seem bothered though.
Mesko swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Piper with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Mesko is breathing heavily.
Mesko lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Piper circles away quickly and effectively.
Some wild striking there from Mesko.

Piper closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Piper seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Piper is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Mesko is looking for a sweep. Piper is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Piper frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Piper looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Piper looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Piper controlling the pace for now.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Piper wants to control the pace but Mesko is squirming around nicely.
Piper thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Piper throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Mesko because Piper loaded up on that one.
Piper has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Piper takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.

Piper working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Mesko trying to control the hands but Piper won't let him.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peter Piper dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Piper shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Piper showed some decent athleticism there.

Piper is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mesko defends it well.
Piper seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Mesko does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Piper not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Piper is working for a kimura but Mesko is defending it quite comfortably.

Piper is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Mesko has managed to free his arm - good work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mesko keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Piper tries to clinch there but Mesko circles away.
Piper tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mesko paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Piper just misses with a punch to the body.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Decent striking displayed by Piper there.
Peter Piper seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Piper.

Piper working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Piper is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mesko knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Mesko is looking for a sweep.

Piper throws an elbow but Mesko slips to the side and avoids it well.
Piper misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

Piper goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Mesko has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Piper but great work by Mesko.

Piper manages to get back to half guard.

Mesko is trying to work for a kimura but Piper is defending well.
Piper trying to hold on to Mesko's head to control him but Mesko postures up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
It looks like Mesko is going to stand back up.
Piper trying to control here.
Piper tries to get to full guard but Mesko has control of the leg.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Piper tries to clinch but Mesko is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peter Piper showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Piper tries to close the distance and clinch but Mesko swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Piper connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Mesko swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Piper throws a push kick but Mesko slaps the foot to one side.
Nice takedown defense from Mesko. No joy for Piper on that attempt.

Mesko blocks a body shot from Piper.
Mesko can't break the clinch.
Piper missing with knees to the body.
Piper lands a nice shot to the body.
A head punch on the inside from Piper fails to land.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Piper tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Mesko smiles and moves away.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Piper tries to clinch but Mesko moves out of range.
Mesko blocks a head kick by Piper.
Piper connects with a body shot.

Piper drives through with a takedown into guard.
Mesko trying to keep a closed guard but Piper is proving a slippery customer.
Mesko tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Piper slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Piper looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Mesko is not content to let Piper control the position.

Piper advances to full mount.
Piper unloads with some shots from mount but Mesko bucks and avoids them well.
Peter Piper has got the better of the ground game so far.
Mesko wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Piper.
Mesko is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Piper controlling the pace for now.

Piper is going olschool here, as he tries to force Mesko to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Mesko shrugs it off.
Peter Piper is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Piper takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Mesko can't escape the position.
Piper controlling the position easily from mount.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Piper can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Mesko is looking to escape.
Piper might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Mesko kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Piper takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Peter Piper comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Piper has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
