PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Minatay Mibangon (ranked 24718 p4p, 24654 weight class) and Wala Sapi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wala Sapi is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 24 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Minatay Mibangon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 22 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Alan Glass and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Sapi bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Mibangon stuck in half guard on the bottom here.
Mibangon is trying to control Sapi's posture but Sapi avoids it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sapi throwing strikes but missing, from side control.

Sapi working the body and head with strikes.
Sapi is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Mibangon tries to buck Sapi off but Sapi is having none of it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Mibangon misses with a takedown
and Sapi counters with a right hand to the body.

Mibangon scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Sapi is trying to control but can't.
Sapi is concentrating on defense, preventing Mibangon from advancing position.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Mibangon in particular looking to stall.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Sapi has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mibangon is working away from the top position though.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Mibangon goes for a double leg but Sapi avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Sapi continues to drive forward.
Mibangon is looking to break free of the clinch but Sapi has double underhooks.
Sapi stops a takedown attempt from Mibangon.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Minatay Mibangon. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sapi goes for a takedown in the clinch but Mibangon prevents it.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Sapi steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.

Sapi closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Sapi throws a strike aimed at the side of Mibangon's head but Mibangon avoids it well.
Sapi happy to just control the position for now.
Sapi has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Let's hope that Sapi has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Mibangon is looking to regain half guard here but Sapi keeps moving and retains side control.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Mibangon perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Mibangon stalling away here and it's allowed Sapi to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Wala Sapi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Mibangon changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sapi tries to avoid it but Mibangon manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sapi to the ground. Sapi escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Mibangon throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sapi's waist but Sapi gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mibangon off to one side.
Sapi counters with a body kick.
Mibangon shoots in and drives through. Sapi sprawls well.
Sapi is trying to counter with his kicks.

Sapi manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Mibangon on his heels. He'll look to pass Mibangon's guard now, I'm sure.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

And Sapi responds with a good body kick, but Mibangon manages to step out the way in time.
