PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Batara Sari (ranked 2269 p4p, 2470 weight class) and Scott Shotz (ranked 286 p4p, 304 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Batara Sari!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Scott Shotz!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, David Hoff and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sari takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Sari walks into a stiff left hand from Shotz.

Shotz fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Sari, pushing him back against the cage.
Shotz working aggressively here.

Shotz breaks the clinch.
Shotz looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Scott Shotz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shotz misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Sari.
Shotz with a nice cross.
Shotz swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Sari counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Shotz!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sari controlling the position.
Shotz is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sari tries for a kimura but Shotz is defending well.

Sari takes a little break here. Shotz wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Sari tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Shotz manages to work his way to half guard, despite Sari's best efforts.
Shotz wants to get back to full guard.

Shotz with the active half guard here but Sari passes nicely into side control.
Shotz tries to improve position but can't.
Shotz looks to move to half guard but instead Sari has passed into mount! Damn!

Sari is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Sari prevents Shotz from improving his position.
Sari takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Sari tries to pass the half guard into mount. Shotz knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Sari is controlling the pace.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sari has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Shotz is looking for a sweep. Sari is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Sari trying to pass the guard but Shotz defending well.
Sari trying to control from half guard but Shotz is working away.
Well, if Sari is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sari is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Shotz doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Sari.

Shotz tries to roll over but Sari keeps him under control.
Shotz trying to control but Sari postures up.
Sari slows the pace down in half guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Shotz misses with a shot to the body

and Sari counters with a takedown into side control.
You can see the frustration on Shotz's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Sari is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Shotz knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Sari is chipping away with strikes.
Sari advances to full mount.
Batara Sari overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Shotz can't escape the position.
Sari controlling from the full mount.
Sari seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Shotz for as long as he can get away with.
Sari continues to stall.
Shotz is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Shotz is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Sari is trying to take his opponent's back.

Sari can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Shotz is looking to escape.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Sari circles away from the clinch attempt

and Sari counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Shotz wants to control but Sari passes easily into half guard.
Sari wants to control but Shotz is keeping him busy.
Sari takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Shotz keeping hold of Sari's head, controlling as best he can.
Shotz moves into full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sari not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Sari trying to control the position from guard on top but Shotz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sari pushes down on Shotz's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Shotz wants to control but Sari is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Sari is trying to control the action in half guard but Shotz is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sari keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Sari seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Shotz connects with a good right hand that stumbles Sari. Sari circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Sari tries to clinch up.
Shotz scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Scott Shotz is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Shotz punishes Sari's body with a nice straight punch.

Shotz instigates a clinch.
Sari blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Shotz goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Sari has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Shotz regains guard immediately.
Shotz looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Sari puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Shotz trying to control from the bottom.
Shotz is trying to get back to full guard.
Sari is looking to advance position but Shotz won't allow it.
Shotz is staying active underneath Sari, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Shotz has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Sari escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Sari!
Shotz is trying to control Sari's posture but Sari avoids it.

Shotz is letting Sari control him for a moment.
Scott Shotz has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Sari takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Batara Sari is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Shotz throws a sloppy strike from the bottom. He's now off balance and Sari manages to pass to side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Batara Sari showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sari, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
