This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of St Petersburg, with a TWGC record of 11 wins and 10 losses; Dani Gerbandi! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 2 losses; Bill Russell! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Elvis Blanc and Gregory Folan.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Russell shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Gerbandi sprawls well. Gerbandi wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Russell gets slowly back to his feet. Russell clinches up with Gerbandi and pushes him back against the cage. Russell tries to score a body lock takedown but Gerbandi shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Gerbandi is pressed up against the cage. Russell has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Gerbandi down to the mat. Gerbandi avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Dani Gerbandi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bill Russell. Russell tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Gerbandi manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Horrible takedown attempt by Russell or perhaps it was just good defense by Gerbandi, which made it look bad. Russell doesn't manage to clinch there - Gerbandi circles away.
Gerbandi changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Russell moves into range and clinches up with Gerbandi. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Russell goes for a takedown in the clinch but Gerbandi prevents it.
Russell is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Russell drops down looking for an ankle pick but Gerbandi pulls his leg out and moves away.
Gerbandi feints and as Russell raises his hands in defense, Gerbandi changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. That's one minute gone in the round. Gerbandi seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Russell had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Gerbandi defends it easily. Russell can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Gerbandi controls the pace. Russell working for a triangle but Gerbandi defends it easily.

Gerbandi working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Russell trying to remain calm as Gerbandi controls from the top position. Gerbandi is trying to get an arm triangle but Russell is defending well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Russell is looking for a sweep. Gerbandi is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Russell has escaped the position, nice work there. Russell is looking to reverse the position. Gerbandi taking a breather here. Gerbandi's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Gerbandi wants to lay and pray for a moment but Russell keeps working. Russell is trying to control Gerbandi's posture but Gerbandi avoids it. Gerbandi wants to control but Russell is keeping him busy. Gerbandi tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Gerbandi trying to control the action but Russell is working from the bottom. You can see the frustration on Russell's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Gerbandi looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. A lull in the action here as Gerbandi stalls from top position. Russell is not content to let Gerbandi control the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Gerbandi controls the position from side control. Russell regains half guard there - taking advantage of Gerbandi's attempt to lay and pray for a moment. Gerbandi looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Gerbandi is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Russell sees it coming and defends easily.

That's eight minutes gone in the round. Gerbandi thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Russell tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Gerbandi wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gerbandi controlling the position.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Gerbandi trying to control the action but Russell is working from the bottom. Gerbandi tries for a kimura but Russell is defending well. Russell is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Russell is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Gerbandi's leg. Oh but that's left an opportunity for Gerbandi! He's got an arm triangle... it looks tight! He's rotating and Russell has tapped! This one is allllll over!
