Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Via Dios (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Mako (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dios comes to the cage accompanied by Sandstorm. Via Dios has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Via Dios!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, George Mako!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Alec Ball and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dios uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Mako.
Mako is trying hard to land a takedown here. Dios sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Dios looks to score with a jab to the body but Mako is just out of range.
Dios misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Mako.
Dios takes a swing at Mako's ribcage but misses.
Mako takes a jab right on the kisser.
Nice cross by Dios.
Dios misses with a jab, cross combination.
Mako misses with a hook to the body
and Dios connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Mako shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Dios is trying to defend but Mako finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Dios wants to get back to full guard.
Mako lands with a punch from half guard.
Dios is in trouble now - Mako has advanced to mount!
Mako scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Dios slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mako is trying to control the action in half guard but Dios is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Mako misses with a head shot. Dios uses the momentum to regain guard.

Dios looking for a guillotine here but Mako defends easily.
Mako has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Dios is proving hard to escape from.
Mako throws and elbow that misses. Dios uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Mako's guard. Nice move by Dios!
Dios working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Mako's head.
Dios pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mako is keeping the position for now.
Dios will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Dios trying to control but Mako is working from the bottom.
Dios working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Mako trying to control the position.
Dios stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mako swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Dios displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Mako.
Dios blocks a head kick by Mako.
Dios scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
No joy there for Dios, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Mako keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Dios.
Dios throws a right hand that Mako ducks under and follows up with a left that Mako also avoids with ease.
Mako misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Mako looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Mako looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Dios!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Mako is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Dios is surviving well by controlling Mako's body position as best he can.

Dios working to try and regain half guard.
Mako punishing his opponent with strikes.

Mako wants to finish this one by submission but Dios is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Mako.
Dios in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Mako putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Mako prevents Dios from getting the reversal.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Dios is trying desperately to improve position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dios tries to improve his position but instead Mako has taken his back!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mako is landing with strikes from the back.
Mako throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Dios!
Mako is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Dios up.
Mako loading up with punches from the back mount - how long can Dios hold on?
Mako lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Dios hold on?!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Dios turns into Mako and is now in his guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Dios drops back looking for a leg! Mako is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mako manages to kick Dios off! Dios jumps back into Mako's guard.
Dios is breathing heavily.
Mako lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Dios!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

George Mako dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Dios stuffs the takedown.
Dios will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Mako throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Dios counters with a three punch combo that has Mako backing up. Mako nods at Dios to acknowledge the strikes.
Mako looks to land a body kick but Dios moved away.
Dios lands a head shot.
A big left from Mako misses.
Dios has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Mako throws a head kick that misses
and Dios cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Mako throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Mako scores with a takedown into Dios's guard.

Dios is trying to control the position but Mako postures up.
Mako trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Dios really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Dios manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Mako manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Dios is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Mako is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Mako has escaped and now he's on top!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Mako throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Dios works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Dios is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Mako with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Mako postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Mako looking to pass the guard.
Dios can't keep his opponent in guard - Mako advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Dios is looking to improve his position.
Dios is pressing down on Mako's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Dios escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mako gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Mako is in close to Dios's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Mako pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Dios is keeping the position for now.

Dios escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mako gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Mako has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Mako postures up and lands a big shot to Dios's brow.
Mako lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Mako wants to control from the top but Dios keeps moving.
Mako connects with a couple of short punches.
Mako trying to control the position from guard on top but Dios is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Dios wants to sweep but no luck.
Mako trying to control but Dios is working from the bottom.
George Mako has got the better of the ground game so far.
Mako is stalling in the full guard.

George Mako showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Mako tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Dios was well out of range. Poor timing from Mako.

Nice defenses there by Dios.
Dios lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Mako misses with a body shot.
Mako throws a nice looking combination but Dios bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mako shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Dios throws a head kick that misses.
Dios uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Mako has time to react.
Dios with a nice cross.
Mako cracks a nice hook into Dios's ribs.

and Dios counters with a right hand to the body.
Mako takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Mako looks to land a right hand but Dios moved out of range.

Mako looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

and Dios counters with a shoot takedown. Mako fights it but they end up in guard.
Dios wants to control from the top but Mako keeps moving.
Dios is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Mako is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Mako is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Dios drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Dios jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Mako is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Dios is aware though and is defending well.
Mako throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Dios postures up in Mako's guard and throws a big left but Mako blocks it.
Dios tries to free his leg and advance position but Mako is retaining full guard.

Mako looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Mako looking to hit a scissor sweep but Dios is one step ahead there.
Dios slips nicely into half guard.

Dios winds up and cracks Mako with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Mako wants to improve his position but Dios is controlling well.

Dios has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Mako defend it? Dios steps over the head and cranks it - Mako is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Dios!
