PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Josh Wilkinson (ranked 1839 p4p, 2248 weight class) and Wing Wang (ranked 275 p4p, 330 weight class). Wilkinson comes to the cage accompanied by The Who - Eminence front. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Wing Wang was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Josh Wilkinson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Wing Wang!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Winston Alpacca and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wilkinson misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Wang changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Wilkinson tries to avoid it but Wang manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Wilkinson to the ground. Wilkinson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Wang tries to clinch up but Wilkinson circles away and keeps his distance.
Wilkinson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Wilkinson feinted with a counter takedown.
Wing Wang seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wilkinson fails to land with a series of punches.
We've been informed that Wang has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Wilkinson misses with a hook.
Wang lands the left hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wilkinson shoots in looking for a takedown. Wang tries to sprawl out of it but Wilkinson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Wang manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Wilkinson misses with a takedown
and Wang connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Wilkinson definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Wilkinson tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Wang just stands there and leans against the cage.
Wang scores with a nice hook to the head.
Still in the clinch, Wang scores with a nice short uppercut.

Wang breaks the clinch.
Wang lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Wang.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Wang enables Wilkinson to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Wang manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Wang has his foot on Wilkinson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Wilkinson works his way back into a safe position though.

Wang is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Wang escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Wilkinson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Wang is looking for a triangle but Wilkinson pushes his legs off easily.

Wilkinson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wang swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Wilkinson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Wilkinson is looking to work some ground and pound but Wang has wrist control.
Wang is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Wilkinson has gone for a leg lock! Wang slips out almost immediately though and dives into Wilkinson's guard.

Wang postures up in Wilkinson's guard and throws a big left but Wilkinson blocks it.

Wilkinson is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Wang is aware though and is defending well.

Wilkinson is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Wang defends well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Wang is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Wilkinson pulls his head out easily.
Wilkinson is keen to just control but Wang is a slippery customer.

Wilkinson is working for a kimura but Wang is defending it quite comfortably.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wilkinson content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Wilkinson is pushing down on Wang's leg trying to pass to half guard. Wang is fighting to maintain full guard but Wilkinson has managed to sneak the leg through.
Wilkinson tries to pass the half guard into mount. Wang knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Wilkinson is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Wang defends it well.

Wang is trying to maintain the position but Wilkinson is very close to passing his half guard.

Wilkinson is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Wang sees it coming and defends easily.
Wilkinson is looking to take a break and control but Wang is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Wilkinson is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Wang doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Wilkinson.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Wilkinson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Wang does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Wang is looking to clinch but Wilkinson is avoiding it.
Wilkinson drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Wilkinson closes this distance looking for a takedown but Wang circles away.
Wang lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Wang getting the better of the striking in that exchange.

Wilkinson shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Josh Wilkinson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Wang wants to get back to full guard.

Wang has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Wilkinson. Oh but Wang has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Wilkinson goes limp - he's gone! Wang jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
