PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jose Silva (ranked 4327 p4p, 3617 weight class) and Dylan Batt (ranked 0 p4p, 430 weight class). Batt has chosen MOTTO as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jose Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dylan Batt!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Daniel Bishop and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Batt fails with the takedown

and Silva counters with a single leg into guard. Batt didn't expect that.
Silva is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Silva is working Batt over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Silva is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Silva slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Batt working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Silva doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Silva manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Silva has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Silva pushes down on Batt's leg and manages to get into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Silva is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Batt sees it coming and defends easily.

Still in half guard, Silva seems content to control.
Batt wants to improve his position but Silva is controlling well.
Batt is pressing down on Silva's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Batt not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Batt is trying to control the position but Silva postures up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Silva shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Batt is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Batt is looking to stand up but Silva isn't so interested in that idea.

and Batt counters with a three punch combo that has Silva backing up. Silva nods at Batt to acknowledge the strikes.

Batt shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Silva napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Batt creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Silva sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Jose Silva overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Silva is not content to let Batt control the position.
Silva is trying to control Batt's posture but Batt avoids it.

Silva manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Batt decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Batt pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Silva misses with a takedown attempt - Batt sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Batt fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Silva, pushing him back against the cage.
Silva has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Batt avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jose Silva. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Batt is looking to take this one to the mat.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Batt tries to roll over but Silva keeps him under control.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.

Dylan Batt showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Batt takes Silva's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Silva is in trouble.

Dylan Batt comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Batt has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A less than humble Dylan Batt misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
