Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between James Spencer (ranked 858 p4p, 1042 weight class) and Marcus Hughes (ranked 124 p4p, 146 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Spencer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 15 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marcus Hughes!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hughes shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Spencer pinned against the cage. Spencer gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Hughes shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Spencer counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Spencer shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Spencer takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Hughes misses with a straight right.
An attempted straight right counter from Spencer misses the target.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hughes misses with a lunging right hand
and Spencer counters with a slapping leg kick.
Hughes looks to land a left hand but Spencer moved out of range nicely.
Spencer throws a shot from downtown. Hughes moves away and avoids it.
Hughes fails with a takedown attempt.
James Spencer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marcus Hughes.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hughes misses with an uppercut
and Spencer counters with a low kick, right behind Hughes 's knee.
James Spencer is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Spencer scores with a spinning back kick!
Hughes jabs Spencer right on the nose. Spencer blinks but takes it well.
Hughes throws a predictable looking body shot
and Spencer counters with a left to the body.
Hughes looks winded!
Spencer throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.

Spencer lands a big uppercut and Hughes crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Hughes looks OK. Spencer waves Hughes back to his feet!

Hughes is rocked!

It looks like Marcus Hughes has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Spencer ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Hughes is still on wobbly legs! Can Spencer finish him?
Spencer lands hard precision jab right on the jaw that stiffens Hughes up and sends him tumbling to the mat! The ref grabs Spencer from behind before he can pounce. Some folks in the crowd didn't like that stoppage, but I saw Hughes's eyes roll way back in his head, he was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). James Spencer!
James Spencer took to the mic after the fight and begged the organizational hierarchy for a shot at the title.
