PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andrew Barber (ranked 4375 p4p, 5617 weight class) and Un Kha (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kha is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Eye of the tiger. Andrew Barber has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Andrew Barber!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Un Kha!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, John Mangel and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A nice leg kick from Kha, right into the meat of the thigh.

Barber rushes Kha and presses him up against the cage.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Kha is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Kha breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Kha shoots in for a takedown but Barber shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Barber misses the shot to the body.
Barber really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Barber fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kha manages to avoid it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kha tries for a takedown but Barber sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Kha's coach down at Desert Fitness & Training (14 Elite Coaches) was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Kha's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Barber ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kha moves away.

Barber has Kha up against the cage in a clinch.
Barber looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Barber prevents the takedown attempt.

Barber breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Barber tries to bum rush Kha with a series of wild strikes but Kha uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Kha tries to score a power double leg takedown but Barber sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kha somewhat.
Barber wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Barber enables Kha to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Barber manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Barber manages to escape and get back to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Barber will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Kha shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Barber sprawls well. Barber wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Kha gets slowly back to his feet.
Kha shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Barber pinned against the cage. Barber gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Barber misses with a double jab
and Kha counters with a stiff right hand.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Kha fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Andrew Barber is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Barber avoids the head kick by Kha.
Kha tries a head kick but it misses.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kha closes this distance looking for a takedown but Barber circles away.
Kha shoots in for a takedown but Barber shows good takedown defense.
Barber is looking to counter the offense by Kha and move into the clinch.

Kha shoots for a takedown but Barber saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Kha changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Barber tries to avoid it but Kha manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Barber to the ground. Barber escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Barber swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Kha counters with a good low kick that Barber was not able to check.
Barber rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kha moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Kha unleashes a big counter combination but Barber bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Barber closes the distance and clinches.

Barber pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Kha shoots in looking for a takedown but Barber manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Kha's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Un Kha seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kha fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Kha walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Barber stuns Kha with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Barber takes a swing at Kha's ribcage but misses.
Barber scores with a punch to the head.
Barber just misses with a punch to the body.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Barber!
This has been an exciting period of action!

Barber moves into range and clinches up with Kha.

Barber's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Kha is trying to pull guard but Barber turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Barber pushes Kha back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Kha wants a takedown but no success here.
Kha tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Kha looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Barber is fending him off so far but Kha persists. Nope, Barber circles away and we're back to standing.
