The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch combination from Mariani misses.
Hammerstein slaps away a takedown attempt from Mariani, before circling back to the center of the mat.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mariani enables Hammerstein to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mariani manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Hammerstein tries to pass the half guard into mount. Mariani knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Hammerstein looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Hammerstein is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Mariani is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
