And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 3 wins and 2 losses; Justa Nutz! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Luis Engracia and Seu Braga.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. De Rossi tries to close the distance and clinch but Nutz swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. De Rossi tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Nutz tries for a takedown but De Rossi sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Nutz bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Score +4 for clean takedown past guard: De Rossi (0) vs (4) Nutz Nutz working away. Nutz tries to move into full mount but can't pass De Rossi's legs. De Rossi tries to improve position but can't. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nutz is trying to get an arm triangle but De Rossi is defending well. De Rossi is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nutz wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by De Rossi, who protects the arm well. Nutz goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, De Rossi rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Nutz's guard! Nice work there by De Rossi! De Rossi is stalling in the full guard. De Rossi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nutz swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nutz can't keep his opponent in guard - De Rossi advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Nutz wants to get back to full guard. De Rossi is figuring out what he wants to do next. Nutz trying to hold on to De Rossi's head to control him but De Rossi postures up.
De Rossi wants to pass to mount but Nutz is defending the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nutz wants to control but De Rossi is keeping busy and won't allow it. De Rossi is trying to control the action in half guard but Nutz is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. De Rossi is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Nutz is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Nutz is looking to control De Rossi's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Nutz avoid being mounted? Nutz manages to get to full guard.
De Rossi slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. De Rossi trying to control the position from guard on top but Nutz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nutz not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
De Rossi not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Nutz is looking to cinch up a triangle. De Rossi throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Nutz's body to avoid the submission. Nutz has instead reached around De Rossi's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Nutz arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
