The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Cahute closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Mason (0) vs (2) Cahute The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cahute is trying to control the action in half guard but Mason is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Cahute takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Cahute moves nicely into side control. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Cahute has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Mason is looking for a sweep. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mason can't do much from the bottom here. Mason tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cahute wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Cahute wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Mason, who protects the arm well. Cahute is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Mason has escaped the position, nice work there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cahute is looking to take a break and control but Mason is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Cahute thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Cahute is staying tight to Mason's torso, preventing him from escaping. Mason tries to improve position but can't.
