The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

Cruz clinches up with Bar and pushes him back against the cage.

It looks like Cruz might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Bar is trying desperately to improve position.
Bar tries to hold on but Cruz pushes him away.
Cruz tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Bar stops Cruz from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
Bar holds on for dear life, controlling Cruz's posture momentarily.

Bar wants to control but Cruz is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bar regains half guard.
Bar is controlling Cruz's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Cruz passes into side control, despite Bar's attempt to control the position.

Cruz content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Let's hope that Cruz has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Bar manages to work his way to half guard, despite Cruz's best efforts.

Bar's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Cruz tries to pass the half guard into mount. Bar knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Cruz looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Bar is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at FIGHT FOUNDERS (CA), so we'll see if he gets out of it.
Bar moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Cruz tries to free his leg and advance position but Bar is retaining full guard.
Bar looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
