This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 35 wins and 14 losses; Shaka Zulu! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 11 wins and 4 losses; Nick Rodriquez! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Alexandre Firmino and Matheus Silva.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Rodriquez dives in and scores a takedown into Zulu's guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Zulu (0) vs (2) Rodriquez Zulu is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Zulu has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Zulu has control of Rodriquez's left arm, preventing Rodriquez from doing any damage. Rodriquez controlling from the top position. Zulu tries to land a sweep but no joy. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Zulu looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Rodriquez puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Rodriquez tries to pass the half guard into mount. Zulu knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Zulu gets back to half guard. Zulu is concentrating on defense, preventing Rodriquez from advancing position. Zulu is trying to maintain the position but Rodriquez is very close to passing his half guard.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Zulu tries to roll over but Rodriquez keeps him under control. Rodriquez takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Zulu is not content to let Rodriquez control the position. Zulu wants to control but Rodriquez is keeping busy.

That's seven minutes gone in the round. Zulu is looking to control Rodriquez's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Zulu avoid being mounted? Zulu is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Rodriquez with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Rodriquez wants to free his trapped foot but Zulu is holding on for dear life with his legs. Rodriquez is thwarting Zulu's attempts to control the position.

Rodriquez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Rodriquez tries to pass to full mount but Zulu defends it. Zulu is trying is best to control the position here.
