PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tim Bird (ranked 4558 p4p, 4709 weight class) and Edward Sleon (ranked 499 p4p, 505 weight class). Bird's entrance music is Bleed - Meshuggah. A fine choice. Sleon is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Shabba Madda Pot - Dexta Daps. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Tim Bird!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Edward Sleon!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Chris Saunders and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sleon fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Sleon gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Bird is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Sleon to keep the fight standing.
Bird is trying to break the clinch but Sleon is controlling him.
Sleon prevents a takedown attempt there.

Sleon manages to break the clinch.

Bird clinches with his opponent.
Bird drops down looking for an ankle pick but Sleon pulls his leg out and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tim Bird. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bird looks to score with a jab to the body but Sleon is just out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sleon shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Bird but Bird pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Sleon tries to clinch but Bird is having none of it.
Sleon shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Bird pinned against the cage. Bird gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Sleon slips under a jab from Bird.

Sleon shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Bird looking for a guillotine here but Sleon defends easily.
Bird is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Sleon not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Sleon rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Bird moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Sleon shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bird as he avoids it easily.
Bird throws a head kick but Sleon moves out of range.

Sleon tries to clinch up.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Sleon is trying to pull guard but Bird has him pressed against the cage.
Bird tries for a takedown but Sleon manages to get underhooks.

Sleon escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Sleon is trying hard to land a takedown here. Bird sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Bird shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sleon as he avoids it easily.

Sleon doesn't manage to clinch there - Bird circles away.
Bird is looking to clinch.
Sleon steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Bird.
No luck for Sleon with that takedown attempt.
Bird is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Sleon.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Sleon is defended easily by Bird.

Bird moves into range and clinches up with Sleon.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bird jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Sleon walks away with a smile on his face. Bird gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Bird shoots in for a double leg but Sleon sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
A nice side step and Sleon releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Bird wants to clinch.
As Bird backs off Sleon throws a huge counter combo but Bird manages to avoid it all.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Edward Sleon will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Bird misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Sleon is trying hard to land a takedown here. Bird sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Bird wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Bird is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Sleon dives into side control.

The referee asks Sleon politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Sleon prefers to stall for the moment though.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sleon slows the pace down.
Bird tries to bench press Sleon off him but Sleon keeps the position.

Sleon wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Bird, who protects the arm well.
Sleon creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Sleon is trying to get an arm triangle but Bird is defending well.
Sleon throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bird controls the position for a moment.
Sleon controlling the position.
Bird is looking to regain half guard here but Sleon keeps moving and retains side control.
Bird takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Sleon happy to just control the position for now.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Sleon has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Bird!
Sleon is landing with some decent strikes but Bird is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Sleon has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Bird's face.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sleon postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Bird looks a forlorn figure.
Bird is looking to get to half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Edward Sleon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Sleon is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Sleon working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Edward Sleon has got the better of the ground game so far.

Sleon is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Bird tries to roll over but Sleon keeps him under control.

Sleon is trying for a kimura here. Bird looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Sleon wins by kimura!
