PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Carlton Draught (ranked 811 p4p, 3315 weight class) and Billy Cubbedge Iii (ranked 98 p4p, 352 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Carlton Draught!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Billy Cubbedge Iii!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Tarja Halkonen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Cubbedge Iii as Draught shoots in.
Cubbedge Iii punishes Draught's body with a nice straight punch.
A big right from Cubbedge Iii misses.
Cubbedge Iii misses with a hook.
Cubbedge Iii throws a hook to the side of Draught's head but Draught sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Cubbedge Iii throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Draught changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Cubbedge Iii looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Draught in side control, throwing shots but Cubbedge Iii defends.
Cubbedge Iii is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Draught off and has taken his back!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Draught turns into Cubbedge Iii and is now in his guard.
Draught works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Draught wants to work for an arm triangle but Cubbedge Iii is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Draught is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Cubbedge Iii doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Draught.
Draught has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Cubbedge Iii won't allow Draught to pass to mount.

Draught is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Draught wants to control but Cubbedge Iii is keeping him busy.
Cubbedge Iii felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Draught thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Cubbedge Iii controlling the position well.
Cubbedge Iii is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Draught seems to be working for a kimura but Cubbedge Iii defends the submission attempt.
Cubbedge Iii has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Draught is working away from the top position though.

Cubbedge Iii stops Draught from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
Draught wants to control the action but instead Cubbedge Iii gets a body lock and reverses into Draught's guard! Nice work!

Draught is looking for a triangle here but Cubbedge Iii uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Draught is looking to regain half guard here but Cubbedge Iii keeps moving and retains side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Carlton Draught will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Draught takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Draught shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Cubbedge Iii as he jumps to the side.
Cubbedge Iii unleashes a big counter combination but Draught bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Cubbedge Iii misses with an uppercut. Draught saw that one coming.
Cubbedge Iii looks to throw the jab but Draught is out of range.

Draught drives through with a takedown into Cubbedge Iii's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Draught trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Cubbedge Iii manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Draught looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cubbedge Iii is one step ahead there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Draught escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cubbedge Iii gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Draught looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Draught working for a triangle but Cubbedge Iii defends it easily.
Draught looking for a sweep. Not yet Draught, not yet.
Draught looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Cubbedge Iii puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Draught wants to improve his position but Cubbedge Iii is controlling well.
Cubbedge Iii is taking a breather. Draught says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Draught works his way to full guard. Good work.

Draught working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cubbedge Iii doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cubbedge Iii manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Cubbedge Iii wants to pass the guard but Draught is keeping the position.

Cubbedge Iii is posturing up here but Draught has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Cubbedge Iii tries to roll out but it's too tight and Cubbedge Iii has to tap! Slick submission there by Draught!

Our winner, Carlton Draught, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
