PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Snake (ranked 4392 p4p, 4475 weight class) and Mason Ramirez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, David Snake!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mason Ramirez!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Josh West and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ramirez rushes Snake and presses him up against the cage.
Snake prevents Ramirez from breaking the clinch.
The referee is keeping an eye on Snake - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Ramirez slows down the pace here.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Snake takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Snake is struggling to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ramirez wants to break free but Snake has control.

Ramirez gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Snake gets back to full guard.
Snake knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ramirez on the ground.

Snake is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ramirez defends well.

Ramirez postures up in Snake's guard and throws a big left but Snake blocks it.
Snake wants to control the position but Ramirez says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Ramirez looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Ramirez not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Snake tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Ramirez is looking for a kimura here.
Snake could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Ramirez wants to take a breather but Snake is having none of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Ramirez looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Ramirez throwing shots but Snake is blocking nicely.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Ramirez connects with a nice short shot to Snake's temple.
Snake is staying active underneath Ramirez, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Ramirez misses with a head shot. Snake uses the momentum to regain guard.
Snake manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ramirez manages to get himself to full guard.


That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Ramirez is on top in guard.

Snake thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Ramirez forces his way into half guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Snake trying to hold on to Ramirez's head to control him but Ramirez postures up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Mason Ramirez dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Snake checks a low kick from Ramirez.
Snake looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ramirez is fending him off so far but Snake persists. Nope, Ramirez circles away and we're back to standing.
Snake thuds his shin into the meat of Ramirez's side.
Ramirez doesn't manage to clinch there - Snake circles away.
Snake fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Ramirez checks it well.
Snake misses with a wild body shot.

Ramirez drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Snake trying to strike off his back.
Snake throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Snake working a defensive guard but Ramirez passes into half guard.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Snake lands a nice leg kick that just misses Ramirez's sensitive parts.

Ramirez closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Snake's guard.

Snake escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ramirez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Snake throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Snake is looking for a triangle but Ramirez pushes his legs off easily.
Ramirez wants to control from the top but Snake keeps moving.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Snake lands an overhand right.
Snake circles away from the clinch attempt.
Ramirez avoids the body shot from Snake.
Ramirez shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Snake was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Snake uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Snake slaps away a takedown attempt from Ramirez, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Ramirez is breathing heavily.
Snake fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Ramirez shoots in for a takedown but Snake shows good takedown defense.

Snake shoots in and bounces Ramirez off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Ramirez wants to get back to his feet but Snake passes into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Snake seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Snake thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Snake lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Ramirez! More strikes land and this one is all over! Snake jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!
