Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jørgen Kristiansen (ranked 632 p4p, 625 weight class) and Richard Mesquita (ranked 95 p4p, 94 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jørgen Kristiansen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Richard Mesquita! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Shirou Masuda and Ren Mimura.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mesquita feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Kristiansen working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Mesquita. Kristiansen is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Mesquita postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Mesquita working some strikes from top position. Mesquita lands a couple of elbows. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kristiansen preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Mesquita throwing strikes from guard but Kristiansen blocks nicely. Kristiansen knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mesquita on the ground. Kristiansen is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kristiansen is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round. Mesquita is in close to Kristiansen's body, working some short punches and elbows. Mesquita throws a big right hand that misses. Kristiansen utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Mesquita drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Kristiansen manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mesquita has Kristiansen in his guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Kristiansen's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Mesquita is trying to keep Kristiansen in close.
Kristiansen content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Mesquita has locked up a guillotine! Mesquita's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Kristiansen is holding on here and Mesquita must be using up a lot of energy. Kristiansen has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Mesquita gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
