Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roger Sparr (ranked 383 p4p, 3856 weight class) and Jimmy Nickels (ranked 53 p4p, 398 weight class). Sparr comes to the cage accompanied by OH NO!. Jimmy Nickels has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Roger Sparr! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 19 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jimmy Nickels! The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Radbod Blank and Albert Achterberg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nickels rushes Sparr and presses him up against the cage. Nickels lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Sparr goes for a takedown in the clinch but Nickels prevents it.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Sparr takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. Sparr can't get the takedown.
Nickels blocking some punches.
Sparr tries to score a body lock takedown but Nickels shows good agility there to stay on his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Roger Sparr. That's going to take a lot out of him. Sparr misses with a hook from the clinch. Nickels lands a nice knee to the body. Sparr is looking to take this one to the mat. Nickels lands a body shot. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nickels gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Sparr regains guard.
Nickels drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Sparr manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Nickels has Sparr in his guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Nickels wants to stand and escape but Sparr is having none of it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sparr throwing strikes from guard but Nickels blocks nicely. Sparr postures up in Nickels's guard and throws a big left but Nickels blocks it. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Nickels is on top in guard.
Sparr looking to hit a scissor sweep but Nickels is one step ahead there. Sparr has Nickels pulled in close to control his posture.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Sparr trying to control the position.
Nickels trying to control but Sparr is working from the bottom. Nickels content to stall in guard here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sparr trying to control the position here. Nickels preventing the sweep.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sparr has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Nickels has passed into side control.
Nickels thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Nickels wants to control but Sparr is keeping him busy. Sparr gets back to half guard. Nickels is working for a submission of some sort.
Sparr definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Sparr is looking for a sweep. Nickels is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Nickels wants to stand up but Sparr manages to regain full guard. Sparr keeping moving, preventing Nickels from controlling successfully. Nickels preventing the sweep. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Sparr working a defensive guard here.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Sparr scores with a jab. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Jimmy Nickels dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Nickels ducks under a wild hook from Sparr. Sparr sets himself, and Nickels steps forward looking for the clinch! Sparr avoids it this time. Sparr stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sparr wants it to stay on the feet. Sparr swats away the attempt to clinch by Nickels. Nickels has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Nickels shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Sparr is trying to defend but Nickels finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Sparr works his way to full guard. Good work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Sparr wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Sparr wants to sweep but no luck.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nickels trying to control the position from guard on top but Sparr is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Sparr controlling Nickels's posture. Nickels pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Sparr is keeping the position for now. Sparr trying to control the position here. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Nickels looking to pass the guard.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Jimmy Nickels seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Sparr displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Nickels. Sparr wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch. Nickels tries to clinch there but Sparr circles away.
Sparr appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Nickels tries to clinch but Sparr moves out of range. Sparr scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Sparr lands a nice short elbow. Sparr not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Sparr scoring with strikes to the body and head. Sparr working over Nickels with some ground and pound. Nickels looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Sparr scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Nickels trying to control but Sparr postures up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sparr wants to free his trapped foot but Nickels is holding on for dear life with his legs. Sparr wants to control but Nickels is keeping him busy. Sparr controlling the pace. Nickels is trying to maintain the position but Sparr is very close to passing his half guard. Sparr is keen to just control but Nickels is a slippery customer. Sparr sitting and controlling from the half guard. Nickels gets full guard.

God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Nickels wants to sweep but Sparr has passed to side control! And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Roger Sparr dominated that second round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round! Sparr doesn't succeed with the takedown and Nickels counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Sparr closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Nickels did well to prevent Sparr getting side control. Nickels makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! Sparr avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Nickels gets underhooks to prevent Sparr's takedown attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Nickels is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Sparr working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Nickels looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Sparr puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Sparr working Nickels over with strikes. Sparr keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Sparr prevents Nickels from standing back up.
Nickels is not content to let Sparr control the position. Sparr controlling the pace.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nickels trying to control from the bottom.
Sparr trying to mount his opponent but Nickels defends it. Nickels on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Nickels is looking to escape. Nickels works his way to full guard. Good work. Sparr wants to control from the top but Nickels keeps moving. Sparr slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Sparr is looking to take a break and control but Nickels is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nickels tries to buck Sparr off but Sparr is having none of it. Sparr trying to control the action but Nickels is working from the bottom. Nickels is working to avoid the ground and pound but Sparr connects with a decent elbow. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Sparr lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
And that's the end of the fight! Roger Sparr showed his dominance in that final round. I think Sparr has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
