This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 21 wins and 9 losses; Enamorado Bandito! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 5 wins and 2 losses; Gul Dukat! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Daniel Cesar and Mauricio Rocha.
Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Dukat goes for a double leg but Bandito avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Bandito continues to drive forward. Dukat decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Bandito (0) vs (2) Dukat Dukat keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Dukat has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at The House Of Pain. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one. Bandito preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head. Bandito is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bandito is staying active underneath Dukat, who seems content to just control the action from this position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bandito gets back to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bandito looking for a sweep. Not yet Bandito, not yet. Dukat is looking to advance position but Bandito has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! Score +4 for clean sweep to past guard: Bandito (4) vs (2) Dukat Bandito wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it. Dukat is looking to get to half guard. Bandito forces the positional change into back control. Score +3 for taking back: Bandito (7) vs (2) Dukat Dukat tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bandito looking to control but Dukat is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dukat sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Dukat is staying active underneath Bandito, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Dukat moves into full guard.
Bandito will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Dukat escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bandito gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Dukat keeping moving, preventing Bandito from controlling successfully. Bandito advances to half guard. Bandito is trying to control. Dukat wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bandito tries to pass to full mount but Dukat defends it. Bandito looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Bandito wants to free his trapped foot but Dukat is holding on for dear life with his legs. Dukat is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Bandito controlling the action here.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Bandito trying to control the action but Dukat is working from the bottom. Bandito tries to pass the half guard into mount. Dukat knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Bandito wants to work for an arm triangle but Dukat is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Bandito is looking to pass Dukat's guard but actually Dukat recovers to full guard. Dukat controls Bandito momentarily but Bandito frees himself. Dukat manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Bandito manages to get himself to full guard.

That's six minutes gone in the round. Bandito is trying to control the position but Dukat postures up. Bandito looking to hit a scissor sweep but Dukat is one step ahead there. Bandito is working hard here to advance position. Dukat wants to control from the top but Bandito keeps moving.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Dukat stopping the sweep attempt from Bandito. Dukat controlling from the top position. Bandito not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Dukat pushes down on Bandito's leg and manages to get into half guard. Dukat sitting and controlling from the half guard.

Bandito keeping moving, preventing Dukat from controlling successfully. Bandito seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission. Dukat is pushing down on Bandito's leg trying to pass to half guard. Bandito is fighting to maintain full guard but Dukat has managed to sneak the leg through. Bandito makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Bandito. Dukat sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Bandito's guard.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Dukat is looking to advance position but Bandito won't allow it. Dukat has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Bandito defend it? Dukat steps over the head and cranks it - Bandito is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Dukat!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 9:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Gul Dukat! In his post fight interview, Gul Dukat started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception. |
